"Almost"? It looks entirely dangerous. It's "almost" completely disappeared. How much more would have to dissolve before you'd think it was "actually" dangerous? I'm amazed the MoT man didn't fail it. It's hardly solely cosmetic, after all, and I don'y imagine that Ferrari were in the habit of introducing steelwork under their cars without good reason.was it found after all the body work was done ??

I'd imagined as much, because the MoT tester isn't allowed to dismantle and if he'd seen such extensive rot it would be a certain fail. Anything affecting so much of the structure would have to be regarded as significantly weakening the structure as a whole, wherever it was situated.
If it's any consolation (it won't be) my MX 5 is showing a bit of front chassis rot that's similarly hidden by undertrays. I've slathered it in Waxoyl but my car isn't 35 years old so it's not had as long to fall apart.
On the bright side, it looks like a relatively simple structure to have remade and welded in.

having owned mine now for best part of 23 yrs, when W fully restored mine we found rust in the same place, though not as extensive as this. The water runs down from the radiator front bonnet vent and also the front to rear water pipes run near this area as well and sits under the here to rot out. I take my panels off and regularly check and re waxoyl this area. I notice on the video that 2 new water pipe hoses(blue) had been fitted, I wonder if anyone had looked in there then. at the front though there are 2 panels originally, though 1 usually does not get replace over the years which is the one for the water pipes. Also surprised the suspension lower A arms haven't pulled through on the chassis.

Crikey. If it's a known pooling area, I'd think anyone thinking of purchasing these should take along the right sized spanner. Are there any drain holes where you could potentially poke a borescope camera?
I have a GTS & I don't know if it shares the same tubing as the GT4, but they are massively solid sections and look like they could hold up a house even after 40 odd years.

You have one of the best bodyshops on your doorstep - Stallion at Beeston. Graham the owner has been working on Ferraris for the best part of 30 years and owns a 308 himself. He has done full restorations on four Dinos for me and also worked on cars for other people I know including other 246s and 308s. He knows the 308 and 246 inside out.
Here is a before and after comparison on one of my cars. It was a total basket case when I bought it with huge amounts of filler all over the car, none of the panels lining up, lots of hidden rust, total loss of the original factory bodyshaping etc. The photo hides a lot of this and tends to flatter it. Stallion did a bare metal restoration and put the car back to it's original colour of Verde Germoglio. Once it was finished it was photographed as part of a feature for Ferrari's official magazine.

Great to know & I'll definitely look him up. At some point I'll repaint my 308, but for now I'm happy with its patina.Yes, got to mention Stallion, his son has a F355 as well. Also Retford Autofinishers slightly more northeren do hugh amounts of Ferraris, Lambos, etc. They do alot for Nick Cartwright again they have been operating in this area for a long time. Mechanical Geoff at Shiltec great for the older cars , carb expert!! taught me a couple of trick and I thought I new the GT4 about as good as anyone, having restored my own and for owing it for so long, also being an engineer helps!! happy to offer advice where needed.
