Ferrari 348: Where are they?
Discussion
Where have all the 348's gone? There are 8 LHD cars for sale on the PH website (one at this weekends auction) and only a couple of RHD cars, and one of those is at the previously mentioned auction. Excluding the 'Competizione' model, only 488 348's of the 5 variants were officially imported, and very few seem to have been advertised for sale in the last 6 months or so, since I have been looking. Any ideas?
People (me included) are hangng on to them, couple of reasons, 1. They are actually really fun to drive despite the detracting comments when they were new and 2. like all Ferraris they are going up in value.
If I were you and serious about buying I'd be registering my interest with all the specialists (Forza ,Walkersport, Rardley, Nick Cartwright etc) who probably know of some that could be parted from their owners.

As JasonB said. Some will be hanging on to see where the market goes.
There are always a a small few coming to market during Apr-Jul and I don't see this changing.downside for someone looking is the market has moved on along with the rest of the pre 2000 ferrari market. The fact that the number of LHD models advertised which is the highest I've seen for a few years shows that the rarity of the rhd version has dealers looking elsewhere to fill this void.
If you find one go for it. These really are fun cars, there's a great thread on ferrari chat about buying a 348 over a 355 and vice-versa. General concensus is each has its place and ones not better than the other....recent press articles have helped its reputation.
I spent 18months searching before I pulled the trigger, it really is a small market , especially if you're only after one particular model. in a rising market this can be frustrating.

Thanks JaseB and R36vw. I am already a Ferrari owner and have a high regard for the 348(we all have our favourites),even more so when one of the classic car magazines last year did a comparative test with a 355 which was very complimentary and dispelled a lot of the negative crap which had been levelled at the car previously.

still not a 308 carb car though Great to hear some encouraging posts on the 348. It always seems to be the poor relation to the 328 and 355. What a pretty little car it is and due to its styling must be seen as a special model for the future. A mini testarossa that is great fun to drive and you don't need to be a gym bunny to be able to park it!
Obviously I am a member of the 348 appreciation club

Really? - There must be something wrong with mine then!Obviously I am a member of the 348 appreciation club
Once you get the car rolling the steering lightens up nicely, and once on the move properly the steering is weighted superbly!
However, when trying to extract the car from a parking space or perform a 3 point turn (which in reality is always a 5 or 6 point turn due to the lack of steering lock!), she fights you like a stroppy child who's been told they can't have any sweets!
With the car stationary or barely rolling, you do need a good amount of arm power to persuade the car to steer!
As a 328 GTS owner I have become a great fan of the 348 and would like to thank the owner of the 348 at the DK Engineering Showcase Day today (28/03) who allowed my friend and I to look over his fantastic low mileage car and take mirror to mirror measurements etc. and share ownership experience. Why are good RHD TS/GTS so hard to find?

Compared to a Testarossa old boy, your kids don't have any fillings by the sound of itOnce you get the car rolling the steering lightens up nicely, and once on the move properly the steering is weighted superbly!

Geoff, that was me ;-)It's the 2nd time it went to auction, failing to reach reserve last nov/dec. compared to other r348s that sold in last couple of months, it's cheap. However there may be certain things need doing that held the price down. I've not seen it but odds are likely that the bushes are starting to perish( age related) so they will be due an overhaul. That's 1k for the, bushes alone! Let alone the labour cost. If the new owner sinks 5k into it getting it sorted, it's still a good price. If the service history was patchy it wouldn't be much of an issue if this is now fully maintained and a file builds on recent work .

I have a 1992 LHD 348 TB, with a Nouvalari exhaust and some interior mods.
I bought it almost a year ago, and haven't driven it much. It's got a rock solid service history, loads of invoices and is in A1 condition.
You can prise it out of my cold dead hands if you like, or i'll sell it for £30 Million.
Its one of the best and last proper Ferraris. No driver aids, no gimmicks, no nothing, except the best on-road connection of any car I've had.
