1978 Ferrari 308 GT4 - Help needed on value

I have been offered the above as a non-runner, engine and box have been removed due to a noisy 2nd and 5th.

The car has been stood for 6 years dry stored, but paint is ok etc etc. If it makes any difference at all it has 51K on the clock. (more details can be supplied)

Trying to find someone who might be able to help me on a value or find someone who might be interested in purchase. Not much in terms of UK sites dedicate to these.

Value I guess is fairly low due to the model.

Top cars are making £39,995. So work backwards from there, 51k miles is low but not that low, ie under 20k. So £35k, paint is so so, going to cost atleast £10k for a windows out, not show quality but fair, so now it's £25k. The engine and box are out and sounds like both are going to need work, which as we all know may not be cheap, budget £10k perhaps......which leaves a £15k car as long as nothing is missing and all period parts are correct. Ofcourse I will no doubt be told that I am wrong but that is how I would look at it.

I sort of agree with ro55a's maths. However I'm surprised at £10k for a respray, I'd have expected about half that, but then I've never done a full strip down paint job. £10k for the engine and gearbox is probably a good estimate.
There's also the hassle of getting it sorted, and the time and risk you take on with the unknown unknowns of a pile of bits that's not moved for over half a decade.

Personally I wouldn't pay over £10k for it.

Your calculations match what I was working to. The paint could be either like you say it depends on the level you take it to.

Plenty of unknowns at this stage, but a great starting point.

If as you say the paint is OK, no need to repaint it. But this is a 36 year old car and the original steel was not that great and they weren't galvanised. So I can guarantee you will find some corrosion that needs sort in, and once you start taking off the old paint it is likely to be worse than it looks. I know - I own one.

I think £10K is probably about right. You will find a load of unexpected things that will need sorting. If you are capable of doing it yourself and have the time to do it it would be a good punt.

They are great cars, pretty simple to work on, and really rewarding to drive, and rapidly going up in value

If however you expect to pay someone else to do the work, I would give this one a miss and look for one in better nick.

Working back from a good £40k car, the bodywork and mechanical overhaul (engine & gerabox rebuild etc) could easily be £25k. Once it's painted then the interior will no doubt appear to look shabbier than it did, as will the brightwork.....

£10k seems about right but worth considering more dependent on what the new owner's expectations are.
