So it looks like 308 and 328s are starting to become scarce.

Despite the large production numbers, can we expect to see these follow 512BBs which were 100k three years ago and are now 250-300k?

Is there a reason why the earlier models of the 308/328 series are worth more than the later models? I would have though the later models would have been a more capable machine, so is it simply numbers produced?

I hope so!

In 10 years time, 250K will go nicely in my retirement fund. I can't see them reaching that much but who knows?

I have been looking to re-insure my GTS QV this year and there is nothing on the market at the moment to really compare it with.

It's their time, the people like me who grew up watching Magnum and lusting after 308s are now in their 40s and at the ripe time for buying classics.

I actually disagree with the fact that they won't be 250k in 10 years time.

I'm no mathematician, but I think that the current cost of c. 60k for a good one will always increase year on year. Relative to todays real value, what will 60k be worth in 10 years time?

Coupled with the fact that good ones will become rarer and rarer as people hold on to them, that should put prices up.

And really, if we'd all seen that 512s and 365s were going to go the way they did, we'd all have bought them, wouldn't we? Only we didn't, for the same reasons we aren't buying/haven't bought 328s.

Might be wrong, but I'm thinking a good one is looking like really good investment value!

As an owner of a low mileage 328 GTS perhaps todays values are being driven by a couple of factors, the lack of good quality cars and the relative modest number of cars originally imported during the years they were manufactured, 1985-89. Only 130 GTB's and 542 GTS's were officially imported and I know that when the recession arrived, favourable exchange rates encouraged overseas purchasers and a number of these cars were exported when values of good cars were circa £25/35k: - some cars went to Australia during this period. How many 328's are left in the UK?

There has definitely been a lot less on the market over the past few months. My insurance company valued mine a few months ago at renewal time for 'market value' £45k, but imo thats way too light now. How much to replace it if I could find one similar? I would say £60k isn't unreasonable.

No I'm not selling it.

I'm waiting for my insurance to come back with a quote based on £45K. Last year I had it insured for £27K!!!!!

Meridien at Lyndhurst emailed me yesterday and are coming back to me with a valuation so will have a better idea of the value.

Wow, big change. A car similar to mine is up for auction at Coy's in May. The paint on that most likely isn't as good as mine and I have no idea how it's been kept mechanically.

But it should be interesting to see what now happens to an "i" given the steep climbs vetros seem to have experienced of late.

I was out in my 308 GTB today.... that car never disappoints and drives so much better than anyone that has every reviewed them would have you believe!

Although no power assisted steering, its very easy. The brakes are good, its still quick, makes a great noise. Handling is sublime! gearbox and clutch are also easy. I was always told they were supposed to be heavy?

On a good road clear of traffic, It still surprises me how good it handles and how quick the steering is.

My gearbox took a bit of getting used to and I had it earmarked for an overhaul until the guy it take it to replaced the oil. It transformed it immediately and it has made a huge difference.

Must have been done recently on mine before I bought it as its wonderful.

Even 2nd gear is ready to use within about 5 minutes of firing her up, which that is another point. The car had been stood for 4 weeks in the garage with battery cut-off. Turned power back on, reached in with key and turned.... burst into life straight away without touching throttle or anything. brilliant car!

The 308's steering is beautifully set up and at higher speeds on long sweepers, it comes into its own. But even at low speeds, it's perfectly manageable. I can only think people who think its heavy are running on under-inflated tyres.

My 308's clutch is definitely heavy compared to a modern car and a gear change takes more thought and effort. But I enjoy the moments you get it all just right.

It's a very engaging car and even after many thousands of miles, there always seems to be more to learn. I hope they don't shoot through the roof and become garage queens rather than a perfect driver's mid-engined classic.

My 308 GTB QV is just being finished off after a light refurb and recomissioning so it's not with me yet.

I notice a few of you guys are midlands based like myself, where do you take your cars to be looked after?

Just been quoted £485 fully comp for agreed value £45K.

Is this comparable to what anyone else is paying?

Meridian have estimated mine at between £40-50k depending on condition. I see the Ferrari centre have a GTS up for £79'995!!

I think that's low or very low depending on if it's a carb, GTSi, or a QV.

That might be what they'd like to buy it for, but not replacement value.

For a more specialist valuation I'd speak to someone who is more in touch with the classic market and 308 / 328 in particular like Tim Walker at Walkersport or Nigel Jeffery

Hi,

Mine's a QV.

Thanks,I will have to give them a call. As I mentioned, there's not many around to base a value on. Walkersport has a carb for £59K and the Ferrari Centre at £79K. It'll be interesting to see how long before they sell.

Interestingly, the Hagerty Insurance online valuation tool has a concourse '84 QV at £36'500! I think that needs updating.
