8 FF Surprises
Discussion
Last week I shotgun purchased an FF under the you only live once mentality. It was after a brief test drive.
2015 Grigio Silverstone, 13k, Pano roof, Ferrari warranty and service plan in place.
Exhaust - it’s perfect on the FF, loud when you want it, quiet (ish) when you don’t, a barely acceptable cold start, no need to swap that out to make the most of the v12, man maths saving there
Natural Gait - it will slog at 30/40 mph but doesn’t love it and finds a real natural gait at 80-120 mph. The faster you go the better it gets. I can’t wait to European road trip it.
Stereo - it’s the facelift unit, no CarPlay sadly, Bluetooth & DAB and usual stuff. It’s all total cack and resembles a fiat hire car. No real options other than a full aftermarket system which is disappointing as I like to keep OEM looks.
Lift - doesn’t have it, was nervous about that. Don’t need it at all, been around all our local nasty stuff at it’s eaten it up no problem including our pitched drive.
CC brakes - my first car with these, fantastic no dusting which is great for my OCD cleaning, not so consistent cold/first use and need a few stabs to get the best, also previous owner was 80 and may have glazed the pads up a bit but they are getting better no I have called on them a few times, I have had really good steels on other road cars (Alcon) and I think they are better and more consistent. Not saying they are bad just a bit like a hot blonde, they need warming up and a bit of fuss to get the best out of them
Interior - for space and quality and specialness the interior is excellent, especially with light leather and pano roof, I have had the kid and dogs in no problem
Wipers - first time out and it lightly rained, no clue how to operate them, had everything including the rear going max chat and couldn't turn off, comical sight I am sure. Next time learn the Italian idiosyncrasies before.
Cooling - the whole system is so advanced that the faster you go the cooler the oil gets. Ramped up from a stint at 40 to 80 and the oil temp dropped 10c in no time at all, never seen that in a car before

Beautiful car, and love the pano roof - reminds me of the old Lambo Marzal concept of a low four-seat coupe with glazed roof.
Not surprised the lift isn't necessary; I think it's mainly required by the length of the front overhang more than the front lip height, and properly laid out front-engined cars like the FF have pretty short front overhangs.

Actually, it’s not the front overhang of the FF that’s the problem. It’s the length of the wheelbase. I’ve grounded the middle of my FF going down a car park ramp. The car’s lifter got me out of trouble and into the car park. Not surprised the lift isn't necessary; I think it's mainly required by the length of the front overhang more than the front lip height, and properly laid out front-engined cars like the FF have pretty short front overhangs.

Oh yeah, good point, I imagine most other cars with a 3m wheelbase - like an S-Class - have a significantly higher ride height. Sounds like breakover angle is more of an issue with the FF than approach angle then.ANOpax said:

Not done a breakover challenge yet but now tuned into this. Thank you.
