Morning all
I am new to this forum so I apologise if this is something that has been discussed elsewhere.
I have recently bought an F12 and am planning to try and drive it through the winter. I wondered if anyone has any experience of putting winter tyres on an F12 and if so any recommendations on winter tyres and even a reasonable place to buy a set of tyres and wheels. Also any recommendations on fitting / storage of them? I am in Manchester but i guess purchase / fitting / storage could be anywhere as it is a twice a year trip.
Thanks

I have an FF on winter tyres. Check your owners handbook which will give you the correct tyre sizes for winter setup. I believe that Ferrari recommends sizing down by 10mm but it’s not strictly necessary. Just buy yourself a set of the cast F12 wheels that nobody wants (so they’ll be cheap) and fit the winter tyres to that. If you already have the cheap cast wheels then put your winter tyres on that and splurge on a nice set of forged F12/812/TdF wheels for the summer.

Ferrari recommends Pirelli Sottozeros but a lot of owners run Michelin Alpins. I have the Alpins on my FF’s stock cast wheels. For summers I have a nice set of forged wheels.

I’ve used winter tyres from Conti, Pirelli, Michelin and Vredestein and they’ve all been good.

I’m afraid I can’t help you with the storage issue in the Manchester area. Have you tried your Ferrari dealer?

Thanks for you reply. I will also try a Ferrari dealer for storage, didn't know they did that sort of thing

I just run the winters on the same forged rims as the summers on my FF (Sottozeros one size down) - Set of tyres not in use stored at the dealer for not much money

Not particularly a Ferrari-specific comment, but I would avoid swapping winter and summer tyres on the same set of wheels. I'd definitely recommend a second set of wheels to have the winters fitted onto. Every time tyres are changed you are risking scratching and chipping to the lacquer on your wheels, no matter how careful the tyre fitter. It's far preferable to swap wheels twice annually than to swap tyres. If you look at people who do this habitually (Germans, Austrians and Swiss), they all have an extra set of wheels rather than just tyres. Wheels and tyres take no more space to store than just tyres.
