Looking to chop my Gallardo in for one of these 2. What are your thoughts on them?

Think I prefer the Grey one but the black one looks a better spec.

I've sat in the GS Dick Lovett quite recently and thought it was a nice cars..I much prefer the yellow fender shields compared to the carbon ones..599s look awesome in Nero however with the usual issues with maintenance.
DL also have another HGTE 599 with 12k miles in a stunning metallic red which i also like..Personally i'd buy the grey one asits the same colour as my 458 and my fav Ferrari colour.

That grigio silverstone one is amazing. Nearly nearly bought one of those but ended up settling for a predictable red one......

I prefer they Grey one personally (wouldn't have another black ferrari)

Although 599hgte's have dropped off in price over the last 12months I still think they look expenses considering the are 3/4 the price of a similar mileage F12. Remembering also an F12 would be 4/5 years newer, have 1 or 2 free services left and is a hell of a lot more car!

Have you considered the F12?

I was thinking this only last week...but if mission creep in terms of budget but do think it’s better value.

Black cars only look good for 35 minutes after they have been valeted, the rest of the time you are constantly trying to keep them clean.

I test drove the DL one last week. Drives very well, although you do have to treat the gearbox as if it's a manual (which is basically what it is) and not a DCT. When you do that, it's pretty quick to get used to and drive smoothly. Lots of grunt, lovely noise, corners well.

Car is in very good condition - it was PPF'd previously, but that has been removed by DL to show off the paint. The only snags I found was the leather on the dashboard would need attention to stick it back down (you can see this in the pictures) and there were a couple of small bits of early corrosion on the flying buttresses. It would also need a service. The red one there is sold, however I think the 599 shape suits the greys/blacks.

Although I was originally out to buy a 599, my search got a little derailed and budget blown a bit after I drove a 458 ...

Black just such a pain to wash and keep clean. Even in summer with nothing but dry usage it gets messy and shows up all the dust. In contrast I get away with washing a Rosso Corsa (or similar) car only 3-4 times a year as they stay looking fresh and clean. Also, with the 2 black Ferrari's I've owned I always felt regret when are parked up next to a Red Ferrari!

I've gone a little different this time, Rosso Dino. 500 miles in (through Dec/Jan) and not washed it yet smile

Have a white car at the mo. It's also a pain to keep clean biggrin

Anyway, here are some finer details about the black one.

Offside front wheel 5.5MM 6.1MM 5.7MM

Offside rear wheel 4.8MM 5.0MM 5.1MM

Nearside front wheel 5.4MM 6.1MM 5.7MM

Nearside rear wheel 5.8MM 5.5MM 5.7MM

The clutch wear showing on the 599 HGTE is 41.61% (there is also a photo of this attached)
Currently both front and rear CCM’s read 52% wear and the fronts are 0% worn as they have just been replaced by the dealership along with a new set of front pads. The rear pads measure 8MM of thickness left. (I have attached a photo of the disc wear and pad thickness)

The DL car clutch is about the same, has a little more tread left but a lot less wear on the CMMS.

About 5K miles in it (black has more miles).

Thoughts?

Tom Hartley has one as well as well as an LP560-2 which I would be trading in, so I reckon it would be easier to do a deal with him but I would rather buy fom an offical ferrari dealer.

Can they tell you how old the tyres are too, on cars which had done little mileage in recent years the age of the tyre is as important as the tread depth IMHO.

I understand that. But isn't a red ferrari just like a bright green lambo a little bit cliche?

You make a good point, however it's still a Ferrari! That's what I tell myself anyway. I had a blue 456 a while ago and that was lovely. Since then it's been red all the way

When I think of Lambos as a child growing up (through 80's/90's) it would always be Red or maybe a White Countach/Diablo on my bedroom poster. I don't necessarily associate Green, or similar with Lambos myself.

I guess I have just gone off black for a sports/supercar. I personally love Red or even Yellow on all Ferrari, Lambo and Porsche cars.

I take your point re. it being cliched - Hence why I have gone slightly more Orange this time. But everyone is different. Black definitely helps if the intention is to be more understated for instance.

If you're intending on driving the 599 anywhere near it's potential, I'd be asking for those to be replaced. 5 - 6 years old is the normal limit according to individual manufacturers.

Is there a product for black cars that keeps it clean and protects the paint? I'd ask for that and new tyres as a minimum!!.

Hi OP sent you a DM - the black car was mine I part ex'd it about 2 1/2 years ago and they have sat with it ever since. I would assume given how long they have had it for you could get a very good deal from them.
I switched for a silver 599 HGTE which had all the carbon on it - it just didn't look good on a silver car so i swapped the shields/ fuel cap/ door handles/ center caps and yellow calipers from the black car to the silver.
Car was great to drive, I replaced the ball joints on the car about 1 mth before selling.
I still own the silver car, it is a great car but i usually walk past it to drive my 550 or f12/812 if i want a GT drive.

crazy better value imo but the 599 is still a classic and good examples are quite expensive
