to cat 5 tracker or not...my F12
Discussion
Well I got myself an F12. Re. insuring it, just wondering if people here are accepting of having a Cat 5 Tracker in it ?
Seems like a bad idea to me, as the tracker data can ultimately be used against you. Obviously there may be times when an F12 may exceed the speed limits, and its like a third party (the tracker monitoring center) is building up a file on every incident of that, and it may get called up one day. It has already been called up in a court before and the data used against speeders.... Just feels all wrong.
Anyone got a policy where it is not needed ? thanks for any pointers.

ok, imagine driver had an unfortunate accident. not their fault but say was hard to prove. Was a bit over the speed limit maybe. Maybe the circumstances looked like they were 30 mph over the limit. So prosecution/judge orders the tracker history. and they have do so before. Then that last trip to wales, were driver enjoyed stretching the legs of that v12, but in safe road conditions as we do.....that changes the matter into one where the data makes them out to be a "lunatic" or whatever, as the f12 is so fast.....and so decision is it is best to spend some time behind bars...OK, this fictional scenario is a stretch, but, that is the real risk of that cat 5 tracker....other than getting your car back after it has been recovered as a wreck from the nearest housing estate when i prefer not to get it back. I just see no upside, all big downside...

I agree. What next - personal tracking in restaurants and hotels for the cps and a Judge to offer their critique on one's lifestyle choices and penalize as they see fit ?Your car is a piece of metal / plastic that can easily be replaced.
Cat 5 trackers - all downside IMHO

I wouldn't dream of not using the highest level of security on my cars. Seems like a bad idea to me, as the tracker data can ultimately be used against you. A couple of London plod seized an "uninsured" Lambo a while back, and the Huracan's tracker proceeded to record an officer ragging it around the streets on the way back to the police compound

Sitting reading this with my pal who is a traffic cop and he’s laughing at people’s paranoia. He says that from his experience of “tracker” (granted not the Vodafone automotive in the Ferrari but same tech I guess) that unless activated as stolen then the system in the car could well store your data/route via routine connections with the hub, but is in no way accurate enough to measure speed accurately.
Even if a court order was granted to access the data, then it would only show where you were and not you speed. You may as well worry about your car recording its top speed/data, etc in its internal computer and the police trying to use against you.
I think the Lambo in the earlier relates to a black box tracker used by some people which does track speed, etc and driving styles as dictated by the insurance company, rather than. Normal cat5. Of course I may be wrong?

A car is a piece of metal, sure, but I would hate to imagine the cost of insurance after an F12 was nicked...Your car is a piece of metal / plastic that can easily be replaced.

"The speed indication given by your satnav receiver or vehicle tracking device is calculated by change in position (as determined by satellite fix) over time. It is inherently more accurate, even more so at higher speeds, than a dashboard speedometer. The accuracy of different units vary, but as a rule of thumb, assuming that there are at least 3 satellites visible in the sky, the GPS reading for speed will be accurate to about ±0.1mph.".......
Seems to me that modern Trackers do upload data that can incriminate you very easily indeed......
