I've managed to track down my F50's construction book. A deal has been agreed with the books current overseas owner, will be shipped soon. Can't wait to re-unite the book with its car, after nearly 20 years smile

Was it in the hands of an ex-owner or had it made its way somewhere else?

Very good advice. That's how I tracked it down, through the official Ferrari dealer who first supplied the car, it's in Western Europe and was a delight to deal with. I have the service book so knew which dealership. Went to the website and asked to speak to the General Manager. As luck would have it he was a sales manager in the firm at the time my F50 was first sold, he was happy to reach out to the current owner of the book to broker a deal. I don't know if the book's owner is the car's original owner. Since buying the F50 I've driven myself mad sorting a few minor gremlins (the AC clutch was dodgy, the re-chargeable torch needed complete overhaul) but she's now perfect. But I wanted this book as much to re-unite it with the car, it's terribly sentimental but this isn't just a car, it's a work of art smile

PS: Thanks for your kind comments.

I think it is always best to start with the first owner (name and address, as well as the supplying dealer should be in the front page of the warranty book) as that seems to be quite often where such things get separated. A friend managed to get the original documents for his 250 California from the original owner (who was very young when he owned the car) who had kept them for 50+ years. I believe it did cost a penny or two though.

According to my records your F50 has been in Germany, the Netherlands and Japan before it came to the UK (not at all unusual for such a car) so it was fortunate you were able to track it down through the supplying dealer since it might have been quite a hunt otherwise! Even assuming it had stayed with a previous owner as you never know whether such things might end up sold on to a collector who had no connection to the car at all.

Jonathan, what don't you know! smile Nice story about the 250 California, imagine retaining the original documents for over 50 years? The documents must have had huge sentimental value, good they were re-united with the car. Per my F50, not sure about Germany but otherwise concur. Was first sold in the Netherlands where it stayed for several years until Mr Kroymans (original Ferrari importer to Holland) lost his firm and several cars in his collection with it, including 106895. It had a stint in Japan. When I bought her from a Ferrari authorised UK service dealer early last year she had covered c 5500 miles. I was indeed fortunate to find the book.

That's very funny. We should one day bring as many F50s together. Can't be that many here but would still be an awesome sight (and sound!) She's a wonderful car (to see in the flesh and to drive) and yes I'm gloriously biased biggrin

That would be spectacular. What a car! Must be an enormous thrill to own an F50 and drive one. Brings to my mind Jeremy Clarkson's test drive in Italy on the original Top Gear in the mid-90s when he described the V12 as "part werewolf, part Pavarotti" which I thought was one of his better efforts smile

Great story and fantastic that car and book are together.

Reminds of when I bought my current Scud. I thought the Service Book was lost until I went to the workshop who were doing the Pre-Purchase inspection and found not only the Service Book and Manual Set but also VIP book which shows the car being built...under the bonnet..oops!

Good work tracking it down but I don't understand why someone wouldn't include everything they have with the car when they sell it.

I read that Harry Metcalf paid a sizeable sum for some original Lamborghini tools for his Countach as the tool roll was incomplete.
