hi everyone,
took the car out ufor a spin at the weekend and i noticed that the gauge is stuck on a 1/4..... it drops to empty when engine off but never seems to go over 1/4. is this because the car doesn't get driven much and is it an easy fix or a pain? i am guessing that its the gauge rather than the dial?

all help appreciated

Could be a sticky fuel sender, try quarter filling the tank then moving the fuel round in the tank by using the "Tyre warming" F1 technique to dislodge it.
(On an empty road of course)
Failing that you could find the sender circuit wiring and bypass the sender which should give a full reading to check it is the sender. (I'll go check that in the manual shortly to check that'll work)

fuel sender unit arm is stuck against baffles in fuel tank.

Did you fill it up when low, with the car sloping towards the drivers side ?
This is how it happens to me.

suggest drive it until nearly empty and fill up on level ground

I predict a pinhole in the fuel sender float !
