Had a look round my Ferrari main dealer in Surrey yesterday and they have two fabulous LaFerrari on display. I was shocked to see just how many balancing weights were stuck on the N/S rear wheel.

If that was my new car I would not be impressed!

First it looked awful and secondly should a wheel of a brand new £1+ million car require so much lead attached.

Surely it's the tyre that introduced the imbalance rather than the wheel itself?

Wouldn't it have been possible to re-seat the tyre again after moving it around on the rim - that really doesn't look right to me to see that much lead?

Never mind the wheel weights, look at the Ferrari logo! It's upside down! Surely on a £1m car it should be up the right way?

They're not lead anymore, hence needing so many. Pretty poor putting them on the very outside of the rim though.

I'm fairly certain the red dot indicated the lightest part of the tyre and should be positioned right next to the valve.

Bad
Should be on the inside of the rim and coloured black, even if only with a marker pen.
Voicey - I guess with a zillion HP you may get a bit of tyre creep smile

Weights on my rim were painted to match the wheel at Ferrari, surely this is normal practice? When the dealer fitted new tyres the weights were again painted prior to fitment.

Brake caliper clearance could be tight so possibly forced to site them there? does look rough though, on both cars...

As mentioned above, the tyre will be marked at the manufacturers with it's lightest point (typically opposite the cross seam), and that should be mounted opposite the valve where possible (jn this case, the red dot could also be the mark for conicity or the weight, but it'll still be a dot of some form or colour)
I'd be a little unhappy with that if I'd just paid circa £1m for a very special car, and they've not gone to the trouble to avoid extra weights, or at least painted them to match the wheel

Im surprised they don't have black wheel weights, they are just as easy to get as silver ones. I know the 599 GTO has to have them on the outside due to the caliber being so close to the wheel, but it looks like there would be no problem with this one?
