"Gap Theory"

Can't see a name in the byline but it reads like a typically on-message / ill-informed contemporary review, as opposed to a fresh look.

http://www.scotsman.com/motors/reviews/ferrari/gap...

I'm actually getting a déjà-vu feeling here as the bit about the price of front pads / rear pads / alternators all being £270 'bizarrely' sticks in my mind...

Tappets need adjusting at 3yrs / 18,750 miles? Give me strength! Perhaps the gap referred to in the title is in the author's knowledge or in the publication's credibility? biggrin

Agreed. Talks like HGTC's are plentiful. Think you might pay more for a manual that the F1 these days.

Some of it reads like it was written at the 575M launch, whilst some of it reads in context.

If it's the same guy that does car reviews for SoS, it's no wonder. He wastes column inches telling people that junk hatchbacks will be cheap to run, completely ignoring the biggest cost, depreciation

The most impressive thing about that article is how far and wide it has been syndicated.

Other than that, Meh.

Its a great car - you don't need the GTHC pack - although if you want the full Ferrari experience then that's the one to go for. FHP is nice - but the 550/575 are GT's - they're not what the V8's became...

Crap article.
By the way if you want to simulate the FHP these days you can do most of it by updating a shock ecu amnd buying a post 2003 steering ecu from Maranello Skunk works.
You simply unplug the old and plug in the new.
MSW are working on a rear anti roll bar and that will pretty much be it.
If you are interested in this it is much discussed over on Ferrari chat.
See the FHP v HGTC thread over there now

"When the engine is warm, leave it running and open the bonnet. Listen for a loud metallic tap/slapping noise at the top of the engine. This sound indicates that the tappets need adjusting. They should have been adjusted as part of the 3 year service but is a ?£2000 job so negotiate accordingly."

Really????
