I've heard it said that a V12 user should only ever compute the fuel economy once - but perhaps discussing range is a bit less traumatic?

Just put 86L in with 400kms/250 miles on the trip counter with some city driving (e.g. 13mpg). The petrol pump icon had just appeared on rev counter panel.

Given the tank capacity (I believe 105L/23 gallons) I guess that I would have had a reserve of 19L so perhaps another 100kms/60miles in her, if cruising?

What sort of range can you expect to achieve on longer journeys?

we have averaged what looks like 19mpg over 1300 miles which I think is brilliant from a car that is only supposed to do 12.4 mpg combined
Ok that was for a 550 but that equates to 350-400 miles

Just had a quick flick back to the old EVO long term 550 test... and 16-18mpg / 320 mile tanks were 'the norm' with 360 miles seen.

http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evolongtermtests/2...

Would have thought that the 575M which is 6% lower on CO2 on paper would show a comparable improvement but we'll see how it goes in practice.

One might have thought that the lower idle speed afforded by the COP ignition would have contributed to a reasonable improvement in the urban mpg but it turns out that the old mill is quite efficient (or should I say inefficient) at turning fuel into heat at 0 mph!

On a recent journey in the 550 one tank was 475 miles the next was 97 miles ( we may have been traveling quite quickly !!) the last one was again about 450. All mainly motorway.

Sure that doesn't help

Any benefits to report running 98 over 95RON?

Just read the manual that states that that the Fuel Reserve ideogram/icon should appears when there's approx. 18-20L left and then last bar on the fuel gauge (which I believe will have started flashing by this time) would be expected to go out when down to the last 12L...

I usually put Shell VPower/VMax in as was told to do so when I asked similar question when I bought the car. But when I put Normal in I cannot tell the difference performance wise.

I would never fill-up at a supermarket. Just too many stories about low grade fuel at these places - probably put about by Shell/Esso/BP PR machine!

I've been using 98 so far as that's what I've been putting in my other car for years but now that I read that 95 is approved/acceptable in the F, I will give that a go.

My local Shell forecourt only offers 95 and V-Power 100 but the price delta is significant and as it's not clear that this generation of F can make use of the higher RON although I suppose that it might still be worth it from time to time / on track etc. and there could be something in the low friction claims/guff.... However, adding a couple of drops of snake oil into each tankfull might also have the same effect biggrin

I was able to spot the difference quite quickly, with a notable difference in performance especially around the mid range. As a result I have only run Shell's high octane stuff for many years now. I understand that it's the highest octane fuel on the market (99+?). BP's best stuff is only 97 from memory, but I'll be happy to be corrected.

Another upside is that when I used to run it on the normal stuff, after a few tanks I was noticing that warm starting was starting to become an issue. I don't have any problem at all with Shells finest.

in my 612 I get 11.5 around 250-270 to the tank depending on traffic . But if I go on the motorway run I get around 350-380

Further to the above, the first proper journey I ever did in the 550 ended up being a 60-65mph slog up the M40/M6. After about 250 miles we pulled over near the Lake District and could only get half a tank in, worked out as about 22mpg!

In normal driving (which for me includes driving 15mins in/out of London at the beginning/end of each trip) we seem to average 15-16mpg
