hi everyone

i have recently purchased a 456 from another PH member and aswell as the car there was alos a spare set of the wheels, they were the original 456 wheels as the previous owner put a set of 575 wheels on, which look great.

my question is am i better holding on to the original wheels or should i sell them as i am rather short on space.... it would appear that most 456's have different wheels put on them anyway...

cheers

People often change the wheels due to tyre cost/availability on the originals. For what you could sell them for you are better hanging on to them, a prospective buyer may prefer originality.

keep them, that's why I have done.

I run 575 wheels too, tyres are about 2/3rds the price on 18" rims rather than the original 17"s

cheers guys, thats what i thought... a couple of more questions....

1) do you guys use the battery cut off switch if you are leaving the car for any time? if you do is there anything i need to be aware of?

2) the car also came with a set of straight pipes which i believe makes the exhaust louder? has anyone done this mod or stuck a tubi / larini exhaust?

cheers

I use battery conditioners, either C-tek or the twenty quid ones from Halfords. Both work fine. If you isolate the battery, you'll need to leave the bonnet open so you can switch it back again otherwise the windows won't drop when you try to open the car etc. Fine if you don't have any power where you park it, otherwise a PITA

The straight pipes are in a box, and not on the car, probably for a good reason.. Too much on that particular model IMO. A sports exhaust of some description is a must though since stock sounds like a hoover. Speak to Scuderia Systems and they'll tell you what's what.

I leave mine hooked up to a ctek, never had a problem with starting, battery is over 5 years old too !!! What tyres do you guys use on 18 rims then?? do you need to change the geometry or set up??

Yes, you will need a geo setup if you are running the bigger wheels. Use a trickle charger rather than the battery switch unless leaving for extended periods..

i dont have any power in the garage, apart from a spare car battery can you hook a trickle charger up to that, so you essentially keep a car battery in good condition with another car battery?

I put a Tubi on mine, everyone comments how good it sounds. The cabin noise at both low and high speeds is unobtrusive.

Not sure how effective another car battery would be at keeping the 456's battery charged....the trickle charger will require a 120 or 240V supply. By hooking up a second car battery, you'd just be effectively doubling the capacity of the first batteries charge assuming they were both in good/similar condition.

Regarding the question about wheels, I would keep them. If the cars do ever become sought after, having the correct wheels could make a difference.

car I tried with a Tubi had a bad drone at 30 mph, that was very annoying.
higher speed was a lovely noise :-)

guess it just depends how subtle you want to be for a GT car.

btw, re. your 575 wheels, presume you have spacers on the rear wheels, and Hill engineering bolts all around now ?

Agreed, that's the problem, until you actually hear the exhaust you are interested in on your car, it's almost impossible to know what's right for you. I love the tubi, it's not for Davo456gt!

No opinion more right than the other, just different!

Hi Andy - I hope that you managed to sort out the child seats. I pretty much always use the power cut off when I'm not using the car and haven't had any problems whatsoever with this. I did the same with my old Testarossa.

I always disconnect the battery when leaving for a while, and then leave bonnet ajar as the windows don't drop which means you dont really want to be opening or closing doors with the battery disconnected. Never had any issues.

And if you dont fancy the straight pipes ... I do... so let me know if I could prise them out of your possession smokin

i will store the wheels, in terms of the pipes i think that i will sell them on, so Paul i have no idea what they are worth ?

Joyzipper, if i use the battery cut off do i need to drop the windows a touch so that i can open the doors?

It's best to Andy, but you can close all the windows and lock all of the doors manually with the key. When you re-open the drivers door (to pull the bonnet release handle) the glass does catch slightly on the seal but it isn't so bad that it's an issue.

Personal preference no doubt - I always cover my Ferrari in my dehumidified garage all year and always clean it before I put it away. I use a thick cover in the winter and a thinner one in the summer. My garage is brick built and dry, the roof has 75m of insulation and skimmed. The covers usually have a small amount of dust after a period of no-use and I wash both covers once a year (my 328 is always connected to a Ctek charger with the battery switched off). The FOC member has a nice range of covers, see their website. Hope this helps.
