The kitten before, no tiles though

And now with the new splash back and down lights

My mum's reaction "that's an interesting choice"

I think it's disapproval

Very contemporary and adds a lot more color. I like it! Now you need to keep it clutter free.

Because they're not Ferrari titles. No red colour. Maybe something a little different like this?

Or just leave the wife and go shopping for something stupid

Alexandra, what do you say?
By the way, what about your tiles?
I would love to see that mermaid at the bottom of someone elses swimming pool biglaugh

Okay... here are some tiles similar to DeeJRC's

They do look better in the context of the whole room though.

rofl We both clearly have great taste then.

Like every journey, sometimes it's the detours that are the most revealing

So the 599 is ready for collection but it will be a few more days till I can pick the car up. Unfortunately this has had an impact on my route planning to Norway as I have a date in Stavanger.

My initial plan was to follow the TopGear "Race to Oslo" https://topgear.fandom.com/wiki/Race_to_Oslo

And though technically possible to get to Stavanger in time, I think it would be a bad start if I turned up to my date looking like a worn out Jeremy Clarkson paperbag
Maybe I will do it in reverse as I have more time on the way back.

Thus a route chosen by Google.maps, nothing but a very light test of the 599s ability to cross countries, giving a few hours to relax on the ferry and a rest stop to freshen up wink
Once in Norway, depending on progress I'll probably deviate slightly and take the coastal route.

Looks like a fun trip. Google maps doesn't always come up with the best options.

If you can time the ferry correctly, Harwich-Hook of Holland would be better than the Chunnel route. It avoids 200 miles of uninspiring driving along congested roads and allegedly takes the same amount of time.

HI ANOpax,

For sure a better option. To tell the truth, I have another few days planned in Germany after Norway hence the choice of the tunnel. I could have booked single rather than return options but the tunnel was just the lazy option, even if the route a little boring.

I have a longer trip planned with Merc and McL and this will most likely be the way we will go.

So today is the first time my paranoia of the KGB, sorry, insurance company watching everything started to make me believe it's not paranoia.

Emailed the insurance company to let them know my Norway / Germany trip details.

Reply was "Could you confirm that the trips including Germany do not involve any Public or tourist days at Nurburgring"

They have never asked that before!

cop

Well, my friend and I said no more tourist days on the Nurburgring after I had a very big crash on my motorbike with an S class and that must be 15 years ago now. Actually took about that long to get around to going there again.

God I love to spend time in this car! It takes me a little while to get used to the size and speed every time, after a while away.

Back on the challenge rims with PS4s tyres. Chosen due to the expected inclement weather in Norway.

I actually think the continent crossing ability is better suited to this setup. But when looking for the limit the cup2 tyres are a big step ahead.

MDL, Mark, Lee and Ryan again did loads of work on the car.
Ryan also cleaned up the leather. No matter how careful, working on cars and shifting them around always leaves finger prints biggrin
New carbon steering wheel and paddles

The wheel feels a little different in the hand and the LEDs are too bright, need a dimmer switch for the night.
First LED lights up at 6k and the last at 8k.
Not sure if the leather is different and for sure when you shuffle the wheel the change in texture and temperature between the leather and carbon is a little surprising at first.

Mark also did a full gearbox calibration. Not just the gearbox learn program. Inspection hatch was opened and some special tool used.
Hopefully MDL will forward some pictures later.
But needless to say, the gear change has never been so good.
Now in normal city driving and A/B roads I don't notice the gearbox shifting in auto/sport.
Give the throttle some abuse and the gears still thump home, but again smoother than before, no clunking.

That could also be because all the rear bushes have also been changed, geometry redone with GTO settings at max for camber and min for toe.
Car feels nicely stable. We'll see if it still tries to climb the curbs.

TPMS threw up a low pressure warning for the front right.

So off to ATS for a nitrogen purge and fill.
Please don't to ATS in Kidderminster. I saw them hook everything up but after a short drive pressure came up 5 psi which doesn't normally happen. Nor did they support the weight of the car as the air was purged. I watched waiting for the sidewall defection but nothing so I'm not convinced anything was done.

I'll get everything double checked before Germany.

PS the challenge rims have been refurbished satin silver and the dish on the left rear removed.

Unfortunately after checking tyre pressures again tonight looks like the front right has a slow puncture.

Normally I love a midnight drive. Long afternoon nap and then empty roads. This unfortunately never happened. Too many jobs to do mean a late night drive turned into more of a really early start.

2am at the tunnel

Because of the later start, France was okay but once into Belgium, Nederlands and Germany were all busy with morning traffic and August holiday traffic.

So not much opportunity to stretch the 599. Germany route was Google choice and maybe the "fastest" but traffic and road works meant actual speed was around 90.

Did find two people to play "follow the leader" with but these were very short lived. Though I did see the limiter in 5th.

Because of the concern for the front right I had the TPMS on the dash. It was very concerning to see the front right drop 1 psi when all the others went up 2-3 psi.

I had images of a catastrophic tyre failure at 160 and the 599 doing cartwheels. As difficult as that might be, it would be a nightmare if I collected someone else.

So pulled the speed back down to 90

Then I met this guy biggrin

I love playing with Porsches! Especially RS or newfangled EV ones bandit
Now that I was north of Münster and late morning the roads were more open and there were longer sections of 3 lane derestricted autobahn.

I know, my 15 year old GT vs this new EV. In my head TopGun theme tune was playing and I could hear the devil in the passenger seat calling "it's not the aircraft, it's the pilot in the seat"

Two quick blasts confirmed follow the leader was on and the 599 wasn't to be embarrassed in a straight line shoot out.

Luckily traffic, road works and eventually a need for fuel meant my tendency for risk acceptance was mitigated, and we parted ways before I turned the 599 into a Catherine Wheel

Unfortunately after fuel I got a warning light on the dash. banghead

I had had the oil light flash once so I decided to do a little maintenance. Topped up the oil 200ml. Checked the tyre pressures and added 5 psi to the front right.

Unfortunately the back of the car and undertray was covered in oil

Probably the same problem as last time. But I hadn't been driving hard. I was worried and confused

A call to Ferrari Hamburg and they kindly agreed to put the car on a ramp.
For the next 165km I was praying but we made it! woohoo
Thank you car

A need for fuel. In a 599. When you are well into 3 figure speeds.

So that’s basically after about 75 miles then? smile
