It had a repaint 24 years ago from blue to red, which now has bubbling in places. the Pininfarina badge is missing, as is the black line in the waist line recess.

There's no mention of any service history prior to 1984 and a 5 year gap between 2019 and 2024.

added to that, the air conditioning system has been removed (but the parts are available to be refitted)

The 308/328 GTB/GTS market has dipped in the last couple of years, and this isn't a 100% original car.

There may be other issues with the car that only become apparent when you contact the dealer, get all the information they have, and can check the cars history and MOT history, that have put potential buyers off

Why would they remove the aircon system?

I don't think lack of service history prior to 1984 (more than 40 years ago!) would be a big deal. Very likely it was actually main dealer serviced in its first 5 years anyway but maybe there aren't records with the car. However, it amuses me that it says "...a regular schedule of detailed maintenance is necessary. Thankfully, that is something this car has been subjected to..." then gives a list of seven services over 40 years with, as you say, a gap of 5 years and the one before another 9 years prior to that (neither with shops I know of).

The MOT history is here https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/results?regis...

A lot of 308s that weren't originally red have been repainted over the years. I don't think that impacts the value as much as the state of the paintwork. Both interior and exterior look like they need some TLC to me. This car was originally light blue with dark blue interior, so the interior isn't the original colour either.

The air con being removed seems most odd. Surely you wouldn't remove it if it worked?

My 308’s AC compressor had been removed. I’m guessing it had failed and I believe they were never that great to begin with. The compressor itself came with the car and is a hefty lump so I understand removing it. I watched Ivan on Shed Racing on YT recently and he was about to remove his from his Vetro, saying if it gets hot in the summer that’s what windows are for.
A modern, and much lighter, aftermarket system is available from the US though.

Back in the late 80's early 90's a number of 308 GTB's/GTS's had colour chances to red,

The market went crazy for a year or so causing a premium on red cars many having blue interiors

when changed from silver or blue,

A glass GTB sold on "Car & Classic on-line auction last week for £47,500 so prices have dropped ,this car did have a story

in as much it had from left to right hand drive conversion plus the interior had been retrimmed in a Dayton pattern

as in a chairs and flares 246 Dino and the dash had some sort of suede on the lower half ,

Long term ownership by the vender who serviced the car himself including cambelt services ,

Owned a number of 308's with air conditioning not working but never heard of one that's been removed ,

Did have a glass car that was never fitted with it from new ,

Didn't really miss it until i took it into London on probably the hottest day of that summer with a new young lady ,

She was not impressed when we returned to the car after being left parked in the sun only to find both electric windows ceased to function ,

If we were anywhere else bar Central London i think we would have had to strip down to our underwear, rolleyes

I bought my 308 15 years ago with only history for the preceding four years. The indicated mileage was 30,000 but there was no way of knowing if that was genuine or if it had been round the dial once and back again.

None of which bothered me or the guy I sold it to one bit. It was beautifully repainted, mechanically strong and a joy to own. With cars so old it's about condition today, what happened 30 years ago as they have undoubtedly had all manner of thrills and spills over that time.
