I'm looking at a couple of car options, both Porsche and Ferrari.

For Ferrari, at my price point of up to £120k, the Portofino is available, or I can save c.£40k and go Cali T.

A few questions if I may from those that may have these, or know about them:

The Portofinos are c.2019 at this price point and seem to have balance of service plan and some have balance of warranty. The service plan seems to be 7 years, hence I would start paying for services from around 2027.

I assume that an annual service is needed....how much is this likely to be roughly when it arises ? And I assume that the cost will be about the same for the Cali T, but given these are generally 2015/16, I would be paying that as soon as the next service is due as the service packs must have expired.

Warranties. I really would like a hassle free experience, hence I am considering the warranty options. Most of the PFs are either main dealer, hence 2 year included or from other dealers but have the Ferrari Warranty on them which appears to transfer to the new owner.

Main question is when the existing warranty expires, I gather than I can extend with Ferrari. I think the cost is c. £4k per year, am I about right here and for how long can I do this ?

Finally, on values, not the deciding factor, but just so that I am eyes open here's my thinking.

PF at £115k now retail.

Cali T at c.£75k now, for a car 4 years older than the £115k PF.

So, given that they are broadly similar car and market for them, I'm thinking that the PF in 4 years would be c.£80k retail, all other things being equal and obviously less than that trade.

You may see from my other post (in 911) section) that I'm comparing the purchase, running cost and future value across a few cars, hence these questions. A 458 spider may at some point come into contention, which I think would hold value better, but I'm not convinced yet that I want to go that age of car, given I really want low hassle etc...

Thanks in advance for any info.

My last caliT service and MOT was £1,050

2 year warranty doesn’t cover everything, only powertrain anything else you are in the net for.

Very similar cars, both great and both a lot more special than a 911, and I’ve had many Porsches inc 911TT

Screen better in Portfino. Bluetooth slow to connect in Cali.

My Cali has been reliable, done 10k miles in it, one repair at main dealer about 1k ish

Thanks for info. 911 I am looking at is GT3 or RS, which I know are very different cars to the Ferrari, but I'm flexible on how I use the car, so it's more about the price point. Interesting re the warranty, from my research, the Porsche Warranty seems to be pretty comprehensive and can run for 15 years, Vs as you say only limited coverage on the Ferrari. But, you pay your money and take your choice as they say !

Have had a couple of 911s (currently a 991.2 GTS) and previously a 2015 Cali T.

I think the 8 year service on the Cali T is pretty punchy from memory. Maybe c£2k.

Biggest thing for me with Ferrari is how little the power warranty covers. If you’re worried about getting things like getting (very) minor oil leaks sorted then get the Porsche with a warranty. Ferrari won’t cover oil leaks and to fix them, most of the time the engine will need to come out and that’ll be close to £10k at Ferrari.

If the Ferrari warranty was as comprehensive as Porsche’s then I think I would be in a Ferrari PF right now. That’s just one guys unlucky experience with his Ferrari though.

The two cars you’re considering a v different propositions though so I’d spend a bit more time thinking on what you actually plan to do with the car.

GT3 and RS ahh ok ! Which year? Personally I’d still go for the Prancing Horse but those 911s are great cars.

Porsche Warranty is more comprehensive but IMO - You only live once ;-)

As already said the Porsche warranty is very comprehensive but requires that you fit only genuine Porsche parts including consumables, and tyres have to be N rated.

Thanks, GT3 would be a 991.2 which I think is peak GT3 so far, 4.0 engine and relatively modern, RS would be 991.1 c. 2015 / 16.

Going to view one GT3 tomorrow, possibly a PF and Cali T towards the end of this week.

UK factory warranty is 4 years, can be extended to cover sixth (12 or 24 month option but 12month is expensive in isolation).

Service plan is 7 year.

Mine is just into year 5. Only a small air con problem that was fixed under warranty in year 4.

We did factory atelier and a stack of events. Car has done over 20k on road trips (mostly europe including Maranello twice). Never going back to Porsche as just not special enough for the money. Owned a few including Turbo S.
