As with all cars, 488s seem to be moving downwards in price pretty swiftly. Ive been looking to buy for a couple of months and it seems that £140k buys an approved used well specced car.

I'm thinking of holding back until Christmas as the cars seem to be be selling slowly if at all, and my feeling is that the same car will be had for 130k .....and then I will just stop looking at prices and just enjoy the car !

I do wonder where these will bottom out...seems a huge amount of car for the money.

Wait another 3 years and they’ll be cheaper still.

Im sure they will, but that wasnt really what I was asking. Im talking short term values, lets say 6 months for arguments sake.

December or January isn’t the best time of year to enjoy a 488.

Why not just wait until the spring/summer next year when the current shower in government have truly crashed the economy and you’ll

a) be able to buy the car more cheaply and
b) won’t have had the cost of it sitting in your garage/on your driveway/street while the weather is pants.

At 140k that's new range rover money. I'd be tempted to just haggle hard and get one you like and price in 20k a year depreciation in year one, 10k a year after that.

Down.

I’d buy now and get a good couple of weeks driving in before the gritters come out.

Otherwise just wait until spring.

My last three have been bought in autumn, but it probably doesn’t matter that much and I can never wait. At least if it is in the garage you can sit in it and make broom noises until March.

If you start waiting for the price to be right, how long are going to wait? Who knows where the bottom will be, but you are right huge amount of car.

What’s a 7 or 8 year old car going to depreciate by in the next 3 months?
Loved, love, loved my 488- much more so than my 458’s. Haggle hard and get one bought now… still be plenty of opportunities to use over the autumn and winter. Great value if you can buy in the high £130k’s. As said factor in £20k first year and £10k per annum after and you’re unlikely to do worse imo.
Before you know it, March will be round, you haven’t purchased and prices strengthening for the spring (cheaper finance with lower interest rates may help the market turn if the year). What are you going to do then…. Wait out another cycle?

I have been thinking the very same things, For that reason I had made my mind up that nice 360 would be the best car (after discounting a 12c). The usual budget creep ensued and I bought a Used Approved 488 at around £130k a few weeks ago. 16k miles, 2 years warranty, nice spec and colour (for me, but being grey/ Grigio Ferro perhaps not for everyone)

As others have pointed out, yes it is the end of the summer and I did think that if I waited until December the same car could be had for perhaps £5k less (if not sold of course).

In the end I reasoned that it was time to stop waiting on the side lines worrying about potential depreciation and go for it. All I can say is I am absolutely loving it, such an incredible car. The warranty gives me the peace of mind to get out and use the thing! However it does feel like a very well put together car.

If I want to offset the worry about potential depreciation I just consider that the original purchase was over £240k with options, so someone else has kindly taken the initial hit!

Who really knows where the prices / market will go in the future. I do have a sneaking suspicion that these will do better than expected on residuals, purely because there will be many (like me) who are put off by the 296 being simply too 'modern' with its hybrid tech, touch screens. I would genuinely take a 488 or F8 over the 296 any day. All entirely subjective of course!

One thing to take into account is 488s are now starting to come off their 7yr servicing plans, and the pre Apr 2017 cars are subject to a yearly £700+ road fund licence, like I found out! rolleyes This may initially accelerate the depreciation of some of the older cars.

With new pure ICE cars disappearing and new car prices ever growing I think 488s represent great value for money, especially at sub £150k. Switch gear, interior materials and tech feel like a bit of sweet spot too, better than 458 and they hold their own against pretty much anything else pre haptic…

Performance wise the car is simply incredible! I’m loving my 488 spider, no regrets.
