Finding the right 458
Discussion
Hi all, first post here but lurking for years!
Looking to purchase my first Ferrari and my first ‘super car’.
I’m looking for a 458, I had actually arranged to view one next weekend at Kent specialist cars but someone jumped in and put a deposit on which is a shame so I’m back on the hunt - though they seem a little thin on the ground in my budget.
I’ve been looking for a while, I’m lower end of the market and I don’t want to finance ideally so max is 130k. Seem to have missed on a few I liked so my search is slowing up somewhat ideally I’d like to have one to enjoy at least some of the summer.
I have seen one for sale for a while with BAM specialist cars in chesterfield (I cannot link as I haven’t had my account for 14 days - it’s on PH) - I’m from Norfolk so I’m also limited to cars with lift as I worry I’ll need it on our roads here!
It seems to fit the bill mostly probably not my ideal spec but interested in people’s thoughts why it hasn’t sold? I did notice a gap in the MOT so I’d assume that’s the problem - reg FJ11EOH
Cheers all

A 458 is actually quite high, are you sure you need lift? I never found that I even got remotely close to catching mine anywhere!
I mean I just assumed I’d need it? Not that I’d do it all the time but occasionally I’d be on a single track road with grass in the middle… I had an R35 GTR couple years back and that was fine in such scenarios I just assumed the clearance would be small? I’ve driven mine around some Norfolk roads and it felt fine.
In reality the only time I’ve had a problem is roads that have a high crown in the middle. My front number plate holder is an expandable bracket on the bottom spoiler, it’s had a grating but is a lot lower than the bumper. I think it happened in Scotland.

Another vote for no lift - the clearance is high and the profile of the front means on everything but the most extreme angles you will never need it. It's also another complex system to go wrong and none of these cars are getting younger. I used to have a 996 GT3 clubbie and THAT car needed lift....this doesn't.
Number of owners - can be getting high, these cars often went through high numbers in their first few years as they were used as fashion statements until they found serious owners. This isn't a bad thing as they tended to go through dealers who would insist on fixing any small issue before marketing them again. These are also up to 14yr old cars. 5+ owners wouldn't be unreasonable.

Seriously, people.
The youngest of these cars are getting on for a decade old. The oldest are 15 years old. To hell with number of owners and mileage. Buy on condition and drive the damn things. You’re a long time dead.
We are now three generations on from the 458. Buy what you like and drive it like you stole it.

Yeah I agree entirely but wouldn’t make sense for me to buy a low mileage one at a premium if I intend to drive I guess - getting the balance right imo The youngest of these cars are getting on for a decade old. Single track roads the width of it would probably be more of a concern than ground clearance - the mirrors stick out a long way so it's about 2.2m from side to side. Gassing Station | Ferrari V8 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
