Hi All,

Looking at getting a new head unit for the car (mainly for carplay use).

I ordered an Alpine ilx-705d which would have worked but it arrived without the mounting brackets to secure it to the cradle so i've sent it back. However on a little test fit it was clear that it wasn't going to work due to how the space the head unit is in is recessed into the dash.

So back to the drawing board.... either a flip out screen or just a half decent bluetooth unit and stick with the phone cradle...

Has any one fitted anything recently that would work?

Check out Sam’s last Seen Through Glass on youtube at the weekend on his 360CS. He asked the very same question.

Interesting! He’s having similar thoughts to me.

For some reason the head unit is in a different position in the CS too which I had realised

I've seen countless installs in 360/430 cars. I would recommend looking for something with the smallest fixed/floating screen you can find that allows the vertical position to be changed. I would cover the STOP/RECIRC buttons with the screen (as I never press them) so that the top of the screen doesn't interfere with the vents too much.

The only downside to this is the window switches are obscured. If you have a coupe then it's pretty easy to fit CS window switches in the centre console.

For the CS, you could use such a head unit and position the screen low down so the vents remain un-obscured.

I believe the ILX-905D has a couple of different forward fixing positions to combat the potential issue of a recessed head unit. It certainly fits an F430 see attached pics.
I am going to see Audiofile Incar in a few weeks with a view to fitting that exact unit (Alpine Halo 9 inch ilx-905D) to my 360.
Will update here in due course.

That's interesting to know. I've put a cheap Pioneer head unit in as a stop gap (it gives me the bluetooth connectivity I missing (and I had tried one of the dongles, but I think the CD changer element of my head unit is broken)).

Let me know how you get on

For reference, two separate installation depths available for the 905D (note, not the 705D)

Looks huge! Are the electric window controls still accessible?

It’s a 9 inch screen. Window controls are accesible behind the screen.

Another option would be to use one of the single din phone cradle units like this Pioneer

There's a big buzz on fchat 360/430 forum about a new single DIN unit that has carplay and android auto .... looks nifty enough and is cheap

this is the link all the americans are using, can presumably be found direct from China or through a UK/EU importer:

Yes I saw that. Trouble is, the screen is so small that it’s near impossible to navigate it whilst driving. Not an issue of course if you don’t need to toggle between nav, music, calls and WhatsApp.
With the 9 inch floating screen, it’s doddle.
You can find what you need instantly and it is super responsive. I couldn’t ever go back to a phone cradle after this installation.
