Just wondered if anyone has experience of DL Swindon, or indeed any contacts with the sales team there ? Back story is that my 14yr son is classic supercar obsessed and I've managed to get him to at least see quite a few at events etc...but not yet an F40, which is his stand out car. (I do like the fact he's leaning to petrol, simple, pre-elec / digital everything days !)

Anyway, I have noticed that Dick Lovett are advertising an F40 (one of only 2 on autotrader) and I was thinking if getting him down there to just have a look at it, but I want to be clear with them, to save wasting anyone's time that I'm not about to buy it !

Just thought I would ask as I've had varying receptions at higher end dealers from great (Ferrari Solihull) to disinterested at others when I've taken my boys to have a look. I do of course get people that people are there to make sales and hence money, but in reality whilst I'm no F40 buyer, I am starting to scout (12 months away) for a 911, Cali T or Mclaren 570, so I'm at least a potential future customer.

Anyway, any ideas on this, or other ways to get him to see an F40 appreciated.

My experience of DL in Swindon after a number of visits is very positive. When I've been there I ask the receptionist if it's alright to just have a look around and they've been fine.

If you're in that area, Paddlup near Brinkworth also have an F40 in stock at the moment. Not sure how accommodating they are, but its worth an ask.

I went there a couple of years ago to look around when getting a service done to my 911 opposite. They were very pleasant, didn’t care I was just looking around - have a look in the background of this!

Thanks so much for the replies all. Much appreciated and yes, I will check out the other F40.

It's funny how he's turned out just like me...I remember warm afternoons at high school 1987, day dreaming about an F40 in the middle of whatever lesson was going on !

Unfortunately the season has just finished, but if you can get over to the British GT next year, DK Engineering will very often bring some incredible cars along including their F40.

I think most of the main dealers are happy for people to walk in and look at the cars - that has been my experience anyway. When I was 17 I used to drive to Graypaul Nottingham in my £600 Fiat Cinquecento (with Ferrari badge on the back) and I remember them once telling me they wouldn’t stop anyone looking at their cars as they might be a customer in the future (as I ended up being!).

I'm a customer at DL (not with an F40 though!) and they've always been accommodating to people, especially young ones, when they just want to have a look. I was there last weekend and as well the F40 they have an Enzo parked right next to it as well as lots of other very expensive goodies. I think I worked out that the row of cars facing the window were worth around £15m!

There still is. An F40, Carrera GT, SA Aperta, LaFerrari, an Enzo, two 812 Competiziones, 360 CS and so on. Never seen such an eclectic collection before!

Just looping back to this to say what fantastic day my son and I had on Saturday and how generous people were with there time. We went to Paddlup and did indeed see the F40. Big thanks to Tim and the team, I'll definately head down again to one of the cars and coffee mornings.

And then onto Dick Lovett where a really nice gentlemen, who was the official photographer took us around the 'upstairs' collection, which had some truly special machinery. Another f40, Enzo, 275 GTB, Laferrari, 599 Aperto, Carrera GT...

Honestly, it struck me that we could have gone to numerous official show's or museums and not had a better time...a lovely end to my sons half term holiday. And had the man maths kicking in on my part...!
