My 488 was undergoing some other maintenance, and so the old girl was up on a ramp, I decided to take an opportunity to make access to the main Engine Oil tank a lot easier.

Previously when ever I want to change the oil, there is the normal hour long fight with the under tray, to get it off and on, not forgetting that there are vents connected to the tray and also if the wheels are raised with the car, you struggle to get it off around the wheels.

I have access to the three drain plugs under the crank galleries.

But the main oil tank is safely tucked away above the under tray, so it took a few seconds and we located the drain plug and cut a hole

I was pretty much straight on it. So now there should be no more struggling for an hour or so, every time I want to change the oil.

Now I'm guessing that some Ferrari purists will be saying that we should not be doing that, but seeing that my car lives in the real world and the real world has 20mph speed limits where I live and being an, "older guy", the though of taking the old girl in triple figures is just not on the cards, (German Autobahn or not). So if I'm pootling about at 50mph on A-Roads, I don't think this will have any adverse effects.

Made, my and other people lives easy though ......

Are you putting a rubber bung or plug over the hole? The main issue is rubbish flying up.

Jeez, what's the point of having it if you're not going to take it out for a hoon? If that's all you're ever going to do you might as well get something like a Caterham, at least you'll be more involved with the drive. I have an F430 and I just cannot imagine using it as you describe.

This is a great idea. For those of us who service their own cars the faff of taking the underlay off to access an oil drain plug is annoying.

I would probably cover the hole though. Maybe a slightly larger circle of black plastic with 5 or 6 self tapping screws.

We’ll Mr Spleen, a Hoon means different things to different people

Playing with my dog on a Saturday morning in our bedroom is a Hoon

Driving rather sedately to Zermatt is also a Hoon

I don’t have to hit the red line to have a Hoon
