Spotted this going for a steal on autotrader:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202210261...
The description says it runs but can't be driven, so will need recovery, which is good because from the photos you could easily come to the conclusion it could be driven home. Might need some t-cut though.
More seriously, is this as crazy as it seems? Surely this car is fked beyond any hope of redemption? The engine may run, but the whole engine bay is smashed to bits, including the structure underneath. The cooling, all the ancillary systems, the steering and the suspension are all going to be scrap metal. There is damage to the rear too, and the rollbars deployed. Says it's not been written off, but is it not illegal to return something like this to the road without declaring it? Hard to believe it's worth £34000 as parts.
Or am I wrong and this is a real opportunity for a suitably well tooled repair shop to pick up an sell on?

That’s not going to be economical to repair at 34k.. if it was 16k possibly. A steering rack for example on a 430/360 from Ferrari is around 7k, I’d expect similar prices. So unless your doing this with used parts and a budget paint job, it’s fairly uhh pointless.
Says private… might have been financed and they need to some how recover the gap. Might just be absolute jokers.

"not reported as Cat.....".... eek.
Which presumably means not claimed against insurance, which surely therefore means either uninsured or driven on a 3rd party policy.Anyone know the legalities of returning a structurally damaged car (which this very clearly is) to the road when insurance is not involved? Normally the insurance company must keep the V5 and the repairer/owner then re-registers the car. Could someone just keep it to themselves, repair the car as they see fit, and sell it on undeclared? That feels like a loophole.

Yes, it was always this way. There are no laws for unrecorded cars as far as I am aware - if there are, they aren't followed by anyone. Unrecorded cars are worth a lot more for that very reason.Anyone know the legalities of returning a structurally damaged car (which this very clearly is) to the road when insurance is not involved? This California doesn't look too bad (on the face of it). No doubt that it'll be back in general circulation soon.
