I was looking at 458's about a year/18 months ago and went for something else instead. My interest is reignited and looking at what's available and prices. Unfortunately I made no notes when I was looking before but my perception is that prices may have risen a little over the past year - or maybe it's just the cars around at the moment. Can anyone enlighten on whether prices are on the up or reasonably level?

I watch the coupe market and prices have definitely risen by approximately £15k in the last year or so.TBCReece said:

This, around 18-24 months ago the US market went crazy on the 458 and S2000, UK seemed to not do much, in fact the 458 was very slow to move upwards when the entire market was exploding the 458 sat around at pretty stable values until around 12 months ago.A coupe is up typically 10-15k, sometimes more for a rare colour or hero spec (buckets, carbon interior, LED wheel etc).
Spiders are up 15-20k for decent spec low mile examples.
Remember with a 458 buy on quality and service history and not necessarily low mileage, these cars want to be driven and in return give good reliability so don't be scared of a car with 30,000 miles, if anything I'd rather a well priced 30,000 mile car over some garage queen un-used 5k mile car, the latter will no doubt have more issues and cost you a lot more money.
Also be aware of low mileage cars, they are easily clocked and as such a full Ferrari inspection is a must.
There are plenty of these now available, a lot of the cars for sale seem a bit run down but generally "well used" - those that have low mileages have silly prices. IMHO the 488 is much better value at this current time. Stick an exhaust valve controller on a 488 and it sounds pretty good too.

I drove both, purchased a 458 just found it a far more exciting car and far more engaging at lower speeds and as such making it more fun on the road and legal speeds and more of an occaison to drive, three and half years later and I still grin every time I start it up.simon clark said:
Well I’ve probably just bought this at the wrong time on that basis but I love it. Picked it up on Wednesday and managed 500 miles so far!
Had 355’s and a 360 before but this is a totally different proposition. Can’t believe it took me so long to get into one ??

US market doesn’t always correlate to the UK.
Gen 1 V10 R8 manual coupes, £50k to £60k here, sell from £130,000 to £150,000 over there!
Bloody lovely in whit though.
It's been the case for decades, nothing new. 20 years ago old 348's were trading for £25k in the UK.Gen 1 V10 R8 manual coupes, £50k to £60k here, sell from £130,000 to £150,000 over there!

I thought it would be fun to have one when I was living in the US, nothing under $100k.
Generally there is far more wealth and a much bigger market there at any time irrespective of the global financial picture.

Surely there’s a business in buying EU lhd SuperCars, shipping them to the US and selling at huge profit then?
EU cars will not comply with US standards and can only enter without significant compliance conversions once 25 years old (lots of F40s recently and even early 550/355 I believe)Gassing Station | Ferrari V8 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
