Hello all - I have a 2017 488. It’s currently on around 10k miles and for me is always warmed up before being driven hard etc.
For the last few months, after cruising about for a while, I’ll accelerate hard in either 2nd, 3rd or 4th and the engine bay will be full of smoke - from the right and side of the engine.

I’m wondering if there’s a slight oil leak somewhere and the hard acceleration is burning it off, but the engine is already warm? Or could it be a turbo issue?

Wondering if anyone has had anything similar?

I don’t know what the issue would be but I’m surprised you’ve been driving it for a couple of months with it happening. I’d get it checked out as soon as possible. If it was an oil leak that could be catastrophic and result in fire, especially with current temperatures.

Oil on a turbo. Sounds like you're not very far away from burning the car to the ground next time you hit the throttle.

Wasn’t there another chap on here recently with exactly the same problem.

Thanks for the replies so far. I don’t worry about these things usually - on its last service, they noticed a slight oil leak from the rocker cover but they didn’t seem too concerned about it, so I just assumed it was that burning off.

it runs fine - any other replies welcome.

Sounds like you have your answer then. Leaky cam cover gaskets are common and the smoke in the bay is simply the oil burning off.

Update - today I drove the car for 40 miles. Relatively carefully.
Gave it a boot full when nearly home and when on full boost the engine bay was filled with smoke, from behind the driver.
Makes me concerned that it’s more of a turbo issue! I will get it into Ferrari.
Boosts fine though, no error warning and pulls as hard as it ever has.

Interested to know the outcome when it goes in. Does seem strange.

Seems risky to me to continue driving it - I would get it looked at asap. You don’t want the car to go up in flames

Finally seen sense! No point in risking things with these cars.
