Hi

I've been looking on and off at Ferrari's for a while.

I am looking to buy a 348 TS or TB but also considering a 360 once some other cars are sold, I'm not asking for a comparison as their chalk and cheese but have a question about airbags.

I have a young child and in a few years she'll be old enough to ride in the front seat so in theory more opportunities to use the fun car!

But if a car has a front airbag that can't be turned off then she shouldn't be in the front until age 12, so can the 360 passenger airbag be removed?

I don't know if there are any legalities, car issues or insurance issues doing that?

The other option is keep with the 348 plan and there are no front airbags, simple

Any thoughts?

Can't recall for sure, but have a vague recollection of a light coming on to say passenger airbag not operating when there was some but not sufficient weight on the passenger seat. That would suggest it was an automatic function. Of course I may be remembering a different car as I've been out of my 360 for a while, but worth checking the manual or with a dealer for clarification.

I don’t think it can be turned off. I do remember reading about some kind of an after market system that can be installed to give you the ability to turn it on and off though.

That sounds interesting, more investigation required I think

The simplest solution is to fit a module from a non-passenger airbag car. The pas airbag will be defunct but the rest of the system will be left operational.

If you don't mind a little bit of DIY then you could order a module for a passenger airbag & disable switch equipped car, and wire it in. Its just two wires and a switch - the rest is plug and play.

Thanks, this would work. Sounds like there is hope after all

I do wonder what the chance of 20 year old air bags still working are ? I presume if the charge gets damp over time then it stops working like old shotgun cartridges
Just an idle thought
