I'm off to another 296 GTB launch event on Monday 21st, my third, still not especially taken with the car though I daresay that with around 820 bhp, its performance will be epic, second only to the SF90 and eclipsing all the series production cars which have gone before it.

A rainy Sunday got me thinking after I read that LaFerraris are hardly used because of the constant fear of the battery pack failing and I wondered just what the replacement cost is. Turns out, the LaFerrari battery is £144,000 incl VAT + fitting presumably; the SF90 brings that down to £16,000 which means the replacement battery for the 296 GTB could still be £10,000, same league as say a complete set of ceramic discs, a gearbox or engine repair. So, more "reasonable" but I wonder whether 296 GTB owners are going to be driving them with the same constant fear of the battery going west.

I suppose the obvious question is what is the warranty on the battery?

10-15k does not sound so bad, basically the same as 2 manifolds and exhaust backbox fitted or a set of discs. Pretty sure an engine rebuild would cost quite a bit more than that (esp on a 12)

Also, 16k is about why people pay for fancy paint, so don’t think that would be much of an issue given % of list price.

Going to look at the 296 this weekend but having just bought an F8 I'm asking myself just how much power is enough. The F8 wheel spins in any gear in anything less than perfect conditions. I'd have a Laf in a heart beat but when it comes to real world driving we have passed any sensible levels a long time ago.
I know I'm getting old but I'm looking away from supercars more and more to get inspired, and I never thought I'd say that!

I had an invitation to a 296 shindig yesterday. I do kind of like them, but just can’t bring myself to muster up any more enthusiasm than that. As to power, well I consider F12 to be sufficient/bat st crazy so I’m too totally sure I need another 100HP …

This is the major problem for supercars going forward IMHO
I have zero interest in a heavy cumbersome 1000 bhp car that makes no noise and Dont even think about piping V8 sounds thru the stereo FFS.

Supercars are a dying breed and todays crop of cars are the last worth having.
Its already clear fewer and fewer are coming to the market and prices are soaring not just because of new car supply although that has accelerated it.
