F8 Order Books Closed
Discussion
Hot on the heels of the 812 SF and GTS order books being closed, I heard this week the same has happened with F8 Tributo and Spider, at short notice, leaving some of those deliberating over a purchase high and dry.
It may even be the SF90 Stradale is canned, leaving only the SF90 Aperta.
Ferrari are having a real clear out, pinning the future on hybridised versions of Portofino and Roma, the 296 GTB, the SF90 A and the much anticipated - by some, presumably, not me - Purosangue.

Marenello Egham have build slots for F8s as of last weekend. The 296 GTB is taking over. Ferrari are really loosing their way IMHO the 296 GTB design is nothing exciting at all. The engine bay looks like something out of a TVR with a lot of low cost materials on display. Gone are the days of the lovely Red coloured engine bay!
Sigh. I run a 458 Spider and an F12 I've had since new. Each new generation since I excitedly look at the new cars and..........they leave me cold. No change here. It's just not pretty or exciting is it.
I cant help but feel that we're in the depths of a transition period with cars being a bit more modern but holding onto old standards and therefore not really doing anything. I have a sneaky feeling that 2030 onwards will bring the real next gen cars across the industry and the 2020s will be seen as a vague time in car tech and design.
Or, I'm getting old, biased and set in my ways. I'm definitely grumpy.

Ironically there are older Ferraris that pre-date transparent engine covers but have something far more interesting than this to look at in the engine compartment!
always thought these contrived efforts to include glass covers on flat engine bays [all spiders and now the new generation of cars] looked rather horrible. Made properly chavy by being illuminated [I think the R8 is an example of that]. A plastic rear screen that follows the shape of the car like on the coupes is ok, but I think I still prefer something like a 355 - more understated. I find I agree with some of this thread but also disagree with some of it. I think the 296 looks fabulous but I wouldn’t replace my 458 spider with anything turbo’d or hybrid. However if the next evolution of the Portofino is a plug in hybrid I will probably, in due course, replace my existing Portofino (which I love) with the hybrid model. I need the Portofino to be a useable, touring car and I am of the opinion that before too long there will be cities you can’t access unless you have an ultra low or zero emissions vehicle. This is not a problem for my current use of the 458 as a back roads and occasional track toy but it would seriously impact what I use the Portofino for.

agreed. I quite like the shape of the 296. I use my FF as a daily and am quite sad that the Lusso is not being replaced with a hybrid V12 as it is just a matter of time until you won't be able to enter cities anymore.fridaypassion said:
I certainly don't feel there's an upgrade path within Ferrari from the 458. For me the 458 is more than quick enough so all these newer cars bring to the party is speed that you can't use.
aside from the 458 spec or cars like the 812 which make better additions as oppose to a replacement for the 458, the only thing you can do is really look back and try 360cs/430 scud etc which all have their own charmsreserving judgement on the 296 in terms of driving experience but it's certainly horrible to look at, as is the sf90 which is extremely unappealing as an all round package imo

It’s starting to grow on me. Reminds me of Dino and I can see influences from original GT40. I’m not warming to it at all and hybridisation comes at a price. This car is £29k (if you believe the starting price of £231k) more than an F8 Tributo of 2 years ago and £49k more than a 488 of 4 years ago. A reasonably configured Spider will be knocking on the door of £300k.
I’ve seen it now at two launch events in July and November and I would say the reaction from those there was pretty luke-warm. Maybe we’re all getting a little bit jaded from the constant model churn and the whole green agenda?
