I didn't go 993 to 360, but I did have a 964 for something like 10 years, and went 964 -> 348, and then later to 360 which I kept for about 6 or 7 years.
964 was a very good car - basically an ugly 993
But the 360 was so much better. I absolutely loved mine - definitely recommend the move.

I had a 996 and a 360 at the same time. I kept the 360 and sold the 996 (to buy an M5) as the 360 provided all the drama I needed, was faster and more fun and much much more of an event. I loved it and got hooked on F cars as a result. On one occasion of a long cross country blast on which I needed to be on phone calls, I even chose the 360 because it was way, way more economical than the M5.

Never owned a 993 but driven a few and they're a nice car. However, just dropped our 360 Spider down to a storage place and it reminded me just how good a car they are, look/sound great, lovely gearbox, great steering feel - basically feels like a big go-kart that you can place very precisely and exactly where you want it on the road. As others have said, it's plenty fast enough for the road and is a lovely bit of theatre at any speed.

no one gives you hassle for driving a 993, it's a classic porsche and the public like itthe public dislike ferraris
obviously this is entirely area dependent
I've seen similar comments before about Ferrari, but it's not something I ever noticed.
I think there was a minibus full of drunk guys once who called my 348 an MR2 - and maybe one or two negative reactions to my 360. But in 7 years / 15k miles nothing significant at all - and if it wasn't so long ago I could probably think of a few instances where my 964 had a negative reaction.

Staying in a chateau hotelin Cognac we had a 360mand a 993 C2S in our little convoy. The chinese visitors to the hotel all posed for photos with the 360 (an incidentally the Evora) nut ignored the 993 which was parked with them.
Basically the 911 shape is fairly common so of less interest to people. I have had no negative comments about my 360. Its my first Ferrari and I love it, its a proper event to drive, with an 8500 rpm rev limiter it gets your spine tingling and hairs on the back of yoru neck standing up in a way that the 993 cannot match. (Dont get me wrong, I love the 993 and a C2S for instance is probably worth more than a 360).
The 360 does need more thought when parking - its wide, but as others have said it is like a big go cart and quite a bit quicker than a 993. The 360 (mine at least) feels pretty luxurious with leather everywhere whilst still feeling a bit raw with thinks like expose bolt heads on the dash and doors. A strange mix when written down but feels just right.
But ultimately they are both pretty special

Have a 964 and had a 360.I think the 360 is a great car, but you do need to be prepared that they are a bit more fiddly / less useable than most Porsches. More of an event, much more exciting engine, louder, more showy etc. Eat ball joints at services and things like that.
Great cars but not for everyone IMO. If you have the money to run one and it’s an occasional car then go for it. You can pile miles on, but some owners aren’t relaxed about that.

Ferraris will attract more attention: not all of it good.
Had my 3.2 Carrera for 16 years and kept it with the 430 alongside. Obviously my 911 is considerably more basic than the 993 but still relevant.
The Ferrari is the 911 on steroids. I think they do different things.
The 911 being considerably smaller is better in places that the Ferrari just feels to big for.
The Ferrari is so much faster and so much fun. You will love it.

Daily drove 911’s from ‘89 to ‘09. Started with a 3.2 Carrera and finished with a 993c2s. They’re great cars, but after 1000s of miles in all weathers they didn’t feel special to me.
Got a 360 Modena in 2009 and moved on to a CS, and recently added a 308.
Make the move, I doubt you’ll look back any time soon.
Check out Walkersport Ferrari. Tim is very helpful and I think he has a 360 in at the moment. Based on his reputation it’ll be a good one.
Best of luck.

Had a few 993's and an F430..so similar..
The Ferrari is definitely way more of an event to both drive and own..
The drive is more Go-Kart like, they feel lighter and more delicate..
Pay off is they are more fragile & the build quality on the F430 is better than on the 360 IMO.
You'll also probably spend a bit of time worrying about what will go wrong and how much will it cost when it does...goes with the territory I'm afraid.
In summary...do it, you'll regret it if you don't try it to scratch the itch...you can always go on to something else if you don't gel, or another Porsche...which is what I've been guilty of doing far too many a time...

Hi Nick how are you getting on with the 360. How does it handle compared to the Tuscan. Basically the 911 shape is fairly common so of less interest to people. I drove one on track years ago with an instructor shrieking at me to thrash the thing, so am struggling to remember it. Handling on the track never equates to how cars feel on the road
I bought an R8 v10 after the Tuscan, and the handling and speed are pretty immense. I just don’t want to go back to Tuscan type handling.
Part of the fun for me is tinkering, but literally the R8 doesn’t need any of that, hence I’m a bit bored now.

Aside from fixing niggles, a bit like the Tuscan I’m not sure how compatible it is with tinkering, generally I leave it to experts.
I like the R8 but for me it didn’t have the character and although the 4wd gives great grip you can feel the extra mass. The 360 is more delicate but not as quick as the v10 R8.
The 360 is my first Ferrari and at 20 years old it’s obviously not perfect, but there is something about it, hard to put your finger on, and I wouldn’t have believed it until I owned one. I wonder if it’s the Ferrari history and passion seeping through everything from the amazing engine, through the lovely feeling leather everywhere right to the large leather handbook.
Thanks for the reply.
I just couldn’t return to handling like the Tuscan. It was miserable and tiring.
I rebuilt the engine on my Tuscan and have a ramp, so I’m happy to do a lot of the big work on the 360 and just get it serviced annually.
I saw this.
