If you were building a modern day resto-mod style F40, what powertrain would you chose?

LS 7 @505hp. and it's reasonably priced for a crate motor.

A few options:

- Ferrari 348 Twin Turbo
- Ferrari 550M V12 with ITBs
- Audi RS6 Twin Turbo

I'm not sure op is trying to make a kit car or another Noble - however good & cheap the engine is it is absolutely nowhere near the spirit of an F40 evocation.....

I don't know about the tuning capabilities, but the 3200GT motor has some of the right aspects?

I would want a Ferrari engine with a manual gearbox, so the most recently available would be from an F430. If that's not grunty enough, then a Speciale engine should fit onto the F430 gearbox.

The Car Guys just did a video on the future of Ferrari where they conjectured that the Iconia sub brand would reissue the F40 in a couple years. He didn't guess the engine but how could it have fewer than 8 cylinders?

I don't see them throwing a V12 in b/c that'd be incongruous, BUT they might be seeking an appropriate "sunset" application for the current V12 so why not?

My "takeaway" from that video is Ferrari need to lobby harder for a small-producer exemption from EU emissions restrictions. Just a handful of crappy diesel Ford Transits could out emit all Ferrari cars in a given time period. I see 10s of DPD vans up and down my road every day delivering "essential" Amazon prime single-use made-in-Asia plastic junk that breaks after 1 use so gets thrown away.... :-(

(Bit of a moan there but a lot of stuff doesn't add up)
