Hi folks
I’m looking at a car that has quite a few services from Verdi / SS in the book.
I’ve read quite a few tales of woe about ‘sale or return’ arrangements, but I just wanted to ask solely about folks experience of their servicing / repair capabilities?
Thanks
Hurts to say this but Karl is very knowledgeable especially on the early cars, known him since the 80's when startingI’m looking at a car that has quite a few services from Verdi / SS in the book.

his own business , don't know what went wrong but be it on your own head if thinking about buying or leaving your
car with him now, had 7 months of sleepless nights and still having repercussions now. can see this thread being removed
by the mods if you want some honest replies .

I had my car serviced and a few things repaired (eg both manifolds, alternator etc) by them around 2010 - seemed ok to me / no complaints.
He was, that's what i meant when i said don't know what went wrong , jwdh1 said:
Must admit I'm in the same boat as you rat_rod. Bought a 355 off him many moons ago - no complaints with the purchase or the subsequent services. In fact traded the 355 in for a 360CS with him again. Obviously stories started to surface and there was the famous TV investigation but I was contacted by HMRC a while before that asking about the cars I had bought off him - more than a few alarm bells were ringing at that point! However, back to the original point/question - never had a problem with my 355 and the work he'd done on it - and it got used a lot!
I'm surprised he's still walking to be honest .I used Karl for a while. He's very knowledgeable about the cars but I have subsequently discovered work charged for and not done which put me off. You can google plenty of other experiences.
That said, I'd be buying on current condition and recent history. What happened in the dim distant past isn't really worth a whole lot (plus or minus) in my view.

I was told my 550 needed a new gearbox ??? after it was taken to a well known london main dealer for a yearly service.
I couldn’t understand - because it was absolutely fine when their driver picked it up from my garage.
I didn’t like the idea of ether 1. Changing the gearbox from the original. Or 2. Having the gearbox rebuilt if it wasn’t absolutely necessary.
I made a few calls and then decided to ask Verdi to remove the car from the main dealer.
He asked me to tell the dealer to leave the car as it was.
It was picked up within 24 hours.
My first question was - “is the box broken ?”
To which he replied - “absolutely not, simply a combination of minor adjustments and the fact that it was cold”.
I was at work and was sent a video of the car running perfectly.
The Verdi cost was minimal - the dealership quote was astronomical.
(This was 3 years ago - and the 550 has run flawlessly since as it did before.)
I forwarded all the details to the manager of the main dealer and questioned their quote.
The manger asked me to come to the office and made a formal apology. (Which I accepted).
He made the excuse of ‘young mechanics not being as knowledgeable as older mechanics with older Ferraris’.
Not much of an excuse when they tried to turn a routine service into a £20,000 service with a rebuilt gearbox !
However the real insult came when he then offered me £250 off my ‘next service’ as a gesture of good will ……
Now - this was the insult ….. and I will never ever return to this particular main dealer.
An “honest” apology would have been enough.
But this was like punching your wife and then buying her flowers.
What an insult.
I got up and left immediately followed by the manger …….
however on leaving bumped into …… Karl Verdi in the ‘main dealer’ foyer.
I asked what he was doing there.
The red faced main dealer said “oh we get Karl in when we get stuck”.
So there you have it ……
I don’t know about what happened 15 years ago.
However I can tell the difference between an experienced trained engineer and a mechanic.
Karl looks after my 3 cars now and I haven’t got one complaint.

That's almost unbelievable but I would believe anything of a main dealer.
