Surely the dealer only needs to worry about re-sale if you pulled out of the transaction. I would have thought a decent deposit would solve that concern. If I can think up that solution, a dealer can too. Maybe there's more to this than first meets the eye? Limited build slots, margin per car, quotas/targets to keep up, qualification criteria, etc.
