a proper colour change only to de-value the car,This was done back in the late 80's/90's price hype to many
308's ,mainly from silver or blue cars to red as there was a premium for red cars and the cost being much less than today,
Hence you now see red cars with blue interiors, If you want that one off colour best to wrap it then you got the option
of unwrapping it when time to sell. ,
With regard to resale, the answer is obvious to me. What do you think would be easiest to sell, one with standard paint or this one?...

Please don’t. There are only a few thousand of these beautiful cars in the world and you’re lucky enough to own one. You’re the guardian of a piece of unique automotive art, and you have a responsibility to keep it as original as possible. That way, future generations can enjoy it as the factory intended.

To answer the OP's original question, don't do it. I had an RS2000 that had been repainted prior to me buying it and it was a difficult car to move on, even at that lower level of car, I can't imagine how much more hassle it would be with a Ferrari.

This sort of statement would make me want to do it even more!If it were that rare and special, someone down the line would be willing to spend the money to make it back to whatever it once was. As it just (just!) a CatD entry level Ferrari I think the current owner should do as he wishes and enjoy it for what it is-it's his car after all.

I wonder what the thought process was behind that?
I'm all for a bit of individualism and fitted a momo steering wheel to my F355 replacing the ugly airbag one and changed the slightly rusty sill plates for carbon but thankfully I don't think I could be imaginative enough to think to do that sort of paint job.
I do remember being down at Verdi Ferrari way back around 2004ish and seeing a green 355 which was off to be painted rosso. Can't remember what the interior was tho.

Same as buyers wanting low mileage cars and folk not using them for fear of the next person not wanting it.
Let's say a nice 355 is £70k (I mist be wrong-I'm not up on values since I last looked at them in the £40k days!) with 35k miles on the clock.
Let's then say I spent £10k on a respray and drove it 10k a year. In five years it would be a colour changed Ferrari with 85k on the clock.
What's it going to be worth in relation to todays values? £35k? Half price? £45k to drive around (plus maintenance of course) in your dream car in your dream colour for 5 year?
I bet there's millions lost more on depreciation/lease/finance payments over 5 years in way more boring stuff!
