Sound 458 vs F12
Discussion
Started looking for my next purchase, I haven't test drove anything yet, as my list is too long so need to narrow it down first.
I sat in a FF, 458 and F12. I felt very comfortable in the FF, and it sounded great (the car was indoors), The 458 had the best driving position for me, instantly comfortable, and sounded raucous and the car was outside (amazing). I sat in the F12, the car currently at the top of the list, and I felt very uncomfortable, I'm only 5.6 and the seating position just didn't feel right and wouldn't have a clue were the bonnet ended. Sound wise it was very disappointed, to the point something most have been wrong with the car, I'm guessing Ferrari hadn't been over the car yet.
I know you need to drive them first, but do you get over that intimidation of the length of the bonnet? And it should have sounded like the FF, shouldn't it?

I used to find the bonnet length of front-mid-engined cars a bit intimidating. You do get used to it and it's only really an issue when parking. Sensors have made that guess much easier.
I'm surprised you didn't think the F12 sounded good. I would have expected the order to be F12 first, then FF followed by 458.

As I said the F12 is top of the list. I'm going to view another one next weekend, as I have a gut feeling something wasn't right with it, and it doesn't normally sound like that.I'm surprised you didn't think the F12 sounded good. I haven't driven the FF but I will admit also to being a little bit underwhelmed with the sound of the F12 (and the 812). All very subjective of course, and the 458 is a lot more shouty at lower speeds. I'm sort of chavvy so I like that. The F12 is more of a hooligan with a veneer of gentleman's conveyance overlaying it but as long as you stay in the gentleman zone it is a bit more muted. I've driven the F12 in hooligan mode at Maranello and the 812 in hooligan but restrained by very timid people in front of me mode at Silverstone (driving someone else's £350k car on a track makes some people nervous, I consider it respectful to deploy its resources generously) and I'm pleased to report they are much more satisfying out of the gentleman zone. However, hooligan mode on the public road in one of those is something to be savoured rarely and carefully. If at all. I do not admit to ever having done so anyway.
