do I wait for a 488 spider in white or do I go for a new F8
Discussion
£250k v £165k is a 50% budget hike so where do you draw the line as Pistas are sub £300k which would then be a 100% hike of budget.
Depends if money is no object but if that's the case why would you be looking at a used 488 to start with ?
I've seen used F8 coupes at £220k but not in white as im told its not a popular colour for a ferrari and reflects in used prices. Also for the first time ferrari seem to have stock cars and cancelled orders so there are rumours of deals to be had apparently

I've asked one Ferrari dealership and they've told me they are "sold out" of new F8's
Ferrari dealers are not the easiest to get on with, they seem to think they are doing "YOU" the favor !
but I'd like to pick up a new spyder for £225k (not looking for a high spec at all) Just white with sports seats, don't need any of the expensive carbon

Cantvsee you getting a white F8 spyder with sports seats for £225k ????? Not even if it was a cancelled order
I was offered a red coupe with reasonable spec and it was £249k.
Cheapest used spyder ive seen is £259k and spec was questionable.
Weren't you going to buy a white pista at £250k back a while?

The Pista is still for sale at £319k my offer was £250k but didn't open a door,
I'm thinking of a spyder, as the rest of my car's are all coupe's and a
spyder will show off my rescinding hair line
Did they kick you out the door though, whilst laughing their heads off at you. C'mon when is an offer £70k or 22% below going to secure a deal on a £300k used car that they might have £30k margin in at absolute maxI'm thinking of a spyder, as the rest of my car's are all coupe's and a

Right I'm off to buy another £1m house from the £1,000 change I got from the last one I'm sure they will accept my offer this time and you cant beat a BOGOF.
I think you might have slightly dented your credibility with them for any future dealings
I think it's worth trying to get a f8 if possible, the 488 will depreciate hard - the f8 slightly less and is a much better car to drive
alteratively there are some lovely 458's for sale atm

I can’t see the 488 depreciating more than an F8. History tells us that the newer car will usually depreciate at a faster rate in the first few years. alteratively there are some lovely 458's for sale atm

I do think the F8 is a better looking car though (subjective of course). I haven’t driven one so can’t comment, but the reviews I have read haven’t said it’s a better car to drive.
Personally, I don't think the F8 is worth the extra money over a well specced 488. The F8 has small design details which I think look good in comparison, and more power of course, but it is a lot more money. A quick search shows that there are 8 x 488s in white for sale on Pistonheads. Only one within your budget - the car at Ferrari Colchester - but the interior won't appeal to everyone. The car at Pegasus in London is nice, but might need you to nudge your budget up a little. Happy hunting!

Yep! I think you're right, the Colchester car's interior is awful, standard seats and the yellow trim does it no favors ,
the other is pretty perfect but it has 10% post covid price tag, at £165k it would be the right car I guess
There is one more out there, at an indy but I went to a main Ferrari Dealership to see this car when it was at £165k
but the sales guy didn't turn up to sell it to me (covid and him just avoiding work kept him away from the booked appointment)
but this main dealer traded it on to the indy and they put a post covid price on it of £185k and with no Ferrari 2 year warranty on it
it's been for sale, for months
The right car at the right price is out there somewhere white is not everyone's colour and it certainly doesn't command a premium

I tentatively looked at a high spec 19 plate 488 spider in white at meridian modena up for £200k and despite it being in stock over 6 months they still wanted asking price which I thought was high in first place.
It was only a general enquiry,as I researched various car options and to test them out so I didnt push them any further
Basic economics of supply and demand i guess and the market determines todays prices.
With the current situation and what i am experiencing with my enquiries on a range of alternatives you are probably not going to get near your target price until the winter now.
Ferrari dont seem to discount as willingly as McLaren but that makes me think isn't the McLaren overpriced in first place for its brand strength despite the product and tech being industry leading.
Its a bit of a minefield if you are a novice and supercar virgin

The f8 is significantly different to drive, almost a different character to the 488. This is very apparent when you have owned both with your own money and lived with them for thousands of miles in a wide range of scenarios (rather than simply borrow one for a single day and have to spend most of that day setting up and shooting photography/video).I do think the F8 is a better looking car though (subjective of course). IMO, the engine alone and the way it pulls to the red makes it a far better car already .... and that is before you get to the chassis and it's dramatically improved feel/feedback and playfulness. The F8's handling is actually reminiscent of the 458/Speciale more than the 488.
That said, a used 488 at 150 is still one hell of a car. Loved every second in mine. Somewhat "videogame-like" compared to an F9 but still a bloody good video game !
Your approach is completely wrong.
The last thing you should do is advertise to a dealer that you are actively looking for a white car.
They are less desirable, but also much rarer. If the dealer knows that’s what you want he has no incentive to negotiate because your choice is limited.
When you see a white car offered go to the dealer but only show interest in the other cars in red. Only after much reluctance agree to consider the white car. You might find you get some movement in price. (but not 70k!!).

I've never been able to negotiate a deal so it makes little difference really, ' I'll burn it first' is usually the reply I get to my offers
that why I'm better buying new, ' the price is the price'
Dealers have kept the car on sale for years rather than drop a dime! in the past.
the next car is going to be a keeper, so whatever I buy, (done the Mclaren thing - cost me a fortune, but it was worth it, I guess)
just looking for the Ferrari to replace the Speciale I should never have sold.......

a build slot for the F8, if someone has one for a March 21 car ? let me know
Delivery delayed due to COVID or chip shortage !I'm not sure you'll get any sort of date guarantee even on a March 2022 slot especially with the current issue with chip deliveries
Having said that slots might well begin to appear in about a month's time after LB/Artura equivalent is launched even if Spider deliveries may not begin til 2022/2023
