Hi All,

I will be getting PPF fitted to my 488 in the next few weeks. I’m still not sure on how much to get covered & am looking for any advice/experience from other owners who have had it fitted.

Is the front end & sills enough? Are the rear arches and (Carbon) air ducts susceptible to stone chips?

Does anyone have any actual costs of works carried out?

Thanks

Not a 488, but I debated whether to get just high risk areas done or the entire car - decided on the entire car.

Pretty expensive but I don't regret it. Gives real peace of mind, means I don't worry about swirl marks etc when cleaning it, don't need to worry about people brushing up against it when I take it anywhere / display at car shows etc.

I paid about £4,800 (Inc vat) for the entire car I think. I was getting quotes of around £1,500 for just front end and £2,500 for 'track pack' which covered front end / sills etc.

Have you considered PPS? I have had the whole car done in that its a sprayable version. You get know cut lines then and you can polish back on it as well if you get any scratches.

Speak to Project R in Leeds. They do 488 PPF all the time using expel. Lovely guys too.

I considered PPS when I got mine done - but it seemed to require more dismantling of the car than PPF and I wasn't entirely happy with that. I think it probably is the "future" though.

PPS is a waste of time - swirls like st and is very soft so stone go right through and it does not self heal. A mate had this done to his new Mclaren and is regretting spending that money. Stick to PPF

With our customers my first question is usually how long do you plan to keep it and what type of mileage?
If occasional use and under 2 years I normally advise extended front (front end, skirts and other vulnerable areas), if over 2 years or having lots of use then full coverage pays dividends in not only protection but also peace of mind and worry free driving.

This, walked away from an Aventador S a couple of years ago that had this done as they were unable to bring it upto an acceptable standard for collection, it looked really really bad.

Thanks all for your input.

I have decided to go for full PPF coverage. The car will be getting detailed tomorrow, then in for PPF Tuesday. It will be left a couple of weeks to settle, then will have a ceramic coating to finish it off. It should be ready for the May bank holiday weekend!

Have you seen any of the Topaz YouTube videos, they wet sand the whole car in their top end detail. Very scary !!!!

A local company in Kent, through my detailer. Yes, I’ve seen the Topaz level 5 details, looks great when finished, wouldn’t like to see the final invoice!

I bought mine in November from a main dealer, just needs a light paint correction and will be back to its best. Really looking forward to getting it out in a few weeks.

Once you have the PPF fitted then I recommend Gyeon products for looking after it. You can polish the film with one of their PPF renew product and then seal it.

As an update, I decided to go for full PPF. I will be collecting the car Friday afternoon after 6 months in storage, full detail, PPF and ceramic coating.

Looking forward to a long sun filled weekend of driving, it’s been a long wait waiting for this weather to turn!

Lovely.

For what it's worth I pondered either going full car PPF or "track pack". Ended up getting the latter and a couple of weeks after having it done I managed to pick up a scuff that was about 2cm above the PPF line on a door. To say I was agitated was an understatement.

I think if you're on the fence about getting only the front done, or the full car, then bite the bullet and get the full car done - otherwise the first time you pick up a scratch in an unprotected area you'll be kicking yourself.

Exactly my thoughts, I knew I’d kick myself if I didn’t get the whole car covered and then some areas got damaged. Now it’s fully done, I have no worries, each to their own, but I think these cars to be presented at their best at all times.
