Looking to buy my first 458 Spider from a main dealer and have been told the price is non negotiable.
They are in demand and they don't need to discount the price aparently.

I always thought there was a little wiggle room?

Thoughts?

I doubt they’ll be much room to move at this time of year with spring round the corner and restrictions lifting. If the cars still there in a months time then I guess possibly £2-3k to play with.
3 weeks ago I was negotiating on a 812 that had sat with the dealer for 3 months and managed to get the price down £15k... by the time I’d finished procrastinating it sold. I’ve since enquired on 3 others, which have all sold before I could even open discussions. Think there is currently a flurry of buying and Ferrari approved prices are increasing. I think a few will get sucked into paying over the odds.

Both times I have looked at getting an Italia I have been able to get offered at least £5k off but then taken too long to decide.
I also haven’t tried recently(last 6 weeks) on any.

Was it Modena by any chance. They were the same with me.

Every other dealer was willing to negotiate. Albeit, on a coupe.

It’s coming up to Spring, the cars will be increasing in book next month. amongst the replies here there’s already 2 posters who have lost out on cars because they haven’t pulled their fingers out in time. That doesn’t sound like the sort of market that requires prices to be slashed.

Cars are in high demand. Very few about and spring around the corner.

If anybody in the buy and sales market right now will know there is nothing about to replace the stock. We have it with plant. 50k Digger is 50k , because ultimately yes we want a sale but i have zero to put back in its spot and we dont need the money. If there's a 5k margin and i drop 2k then in 3 machines i have lost a machine which can take months to find

Always wriggle room in one form or another, recently I have;

Got 5% off GT2rs,
7% off a RR Ghost Black Badge
Paid list on the Pista Spyder - I didn't get a discount on that but it had £7k worth of PPF I didn't pay for and only had 300 miles on the clock, Romans in comparison is 1500 miles old, £40k overs and they wouldn't move on it.

This was all from main dealers, I don't think i've ever paid asking price on anything be it new or used - theres always a deal to be had and if theres not, theres always another dealer that will deal.

My personal experience buying from Ferrari is that they would not budge a penny on the price (I assume some of this is down to them carefully controlling the used car market too). What they did do for me is throw in some extras, like Ceramic Coating, covered Delivery etc.... So if you don't get any money off but really like the car then perhaps see what extras you can negotiate on top (perhaps an additional years warranty or next service included etc).

One dealer offered me £5k off a 458 as well as painting the side sills for me as I didn’t want it black/carbon + fitting a forza remote and lithium battery.

I guess it depends on which dealer and which car.

from my experience you won't get anything off a 458 atm as they are in demand as well as the weather is about to turn

I was offered quite a bit off a 488 though

I got offered 2.5k off a 458 at a main dealer last week without much effort. No reason why you can't ask and necessarily won't get. As another has said, I would go elsewhere if there's no deal to be done.

That sounds like an amazing deal, can't wait to see the pics. Congratulations!

Need to test drive the 488 and 458 first. Hoping I prefer the 488 for various reasons 😂

are you of negotiating without actually knowing what you want?

I asked them realistically what they would take for the car yes. It’s good to have an idea of the actual price I can get a car for as it may affect my decision. I am doing an extended test drive 18th April, so if I like, I have an offer in writing.

I find the “what deal did you get on a used car” discussions can be a bit misleading...with each and every used car there are a number of factors which determine how likely a dealer is to discount a car

- What they paid for it (probably the single biggest)
-How long they have had it (some of the bigger dealers have a strict 90 day stock policy)
- Do they own it or is it SoR
- Are you taking finance
- Is it month, quarter, year end and do they need to hit targets.
- Is it a desirable spec car
-What’s the overall market like/what time of year is it.
- Have they recently reduced it in price or is it about to be reduced in price (owned it for too long.

Don’t forget it is also dependent on the manner of the buyer. Some people are too excitable and simply terrible negotiators and it’s easy for the dealer to know that he has them over a barrel. The deal any buyer will get is directly correlated with how likely they are to be able to walk away.

If you accept that there is always another car - and there is - then you will get a better deal. It’s almost a truism that the car with the spec you really want is the one on autotrader the week after you bought yours.

Very true. You have to be able to walk away.

And I would also say it makes a massive difference if you are in the dealership ready to do a deal. If you are sat there and not doing it over e-mail they know they aren't being played against another dealer and more likely to put their best for forward. . Clearly that's impossible right now...
