2016 Cali T - Parking Sensor Failure

Message came up this morning whilst driving.

Turned off and left for a couple of hours, but reappeared immediately when ignition switched back on.

Any thoughts, or trip to dealer ?

Don’t own a Ferrari. I wish. Had similar on a BMW though. Often caused by water getting in the sensor. Try spraying wd40 liberally on the sensor to disperse the water. Often clears the faults on BMWs.

I imagine the sensors are all very similar.

Have you tried using the parking sensors? Are they all working?
If not, you have your answer.

Otherwise, the first port of call before a trip to the dealer is a battery reset. And have you kept the car on its battery tender? If not, when was the car last used and how old is the battery? As you're probably aware, the cars are very voltage and current sensitive. If your battery is old or under-charged, the car is likely to throw a few faults at you.

Hi yes I have tried the sensors both manually and when in reverse, sensors / display not working - just says Parking Sensor Failure - so the answer is a trip to the dealer ?

As an aside, car used daily.

Started fine this morning, putting into reverse and the display changed to show parking sensors which then disappeared once I got above 5 mph (as usual) and then 2 miles into trip, going along as normal and error appeared, so don't believe battery related.

I usually have parking sensors off, so display only shows in reverse.

When parking at home I manually switch on parking sensors as I park facing wall. On two occasions last week switching on the parking sensors manually (switch above windscreen), below 5 mph, the display didnt change to show proximity, but has been ok since.

Sound like control unit might be at fault ?

I'd be inclined to agree with you on that. If you want to be doubly sure, perform the battery disconnection ritual which will clear errant codes. If they come back and the display continues to be temperamental then it's time for a trip to the dealer.

Common problem on the Cali I'm afraid (or it was on the older ones)

I've had 3 or 4 replaced now on my 2009 Cali and it seems that the system is set up so that if ONE sensor fails it then knocks out the full system (which incidentally also inhibits the roof operation...although I'm pretty sure that can be overridden)

I may be wrong...but only way to identify where the failure is requires the car to be plugged into the diagnostics....so probably a trip to dealer/specialist.

Thanks - I have not had the pleasure of 'battery disconnect ritual' but I assume you are referring to

Before disconnecting the battery, lower the side windows by at least 2-3 centimetres to avoid damaging the strips when opening and closing the door....

Yes - and then once you've reconnected, drop and raise the windows and lock and unlock the car.

Thanks - had a good trawl through there - seems to be pretty much take to dealer for diagnostics

I will try the battery reset first.

Just a quick update

The parking sensor error disappeared after a few days (the actual sensors now work [bleep], but the display doesn't always show the silhouette of the car with the sensor 'beams').

The parking sensor error was though immediately replaced by a 'stop & start' error message for about a week - this too has now disappeared.

As such I suspect the main ecu might be playing up - perhaps to do with voltage sensitivity (although car starts strongly 6 days a week).

I do need to do a battery reset but concerned that other faults may occur, so will probably leave until the next service in April - thoughts ?
