Another Ferrari itch to scratch - 360 Modena
Discussion
Hi everyone
Having dodged redundancy at work last week it’s time to seek out my first Fezza I think. I’m after a 360 Modena, manual box, ideally red. I plan on using it so not after super low miles. I’ve read the threads on here of others getting 360s and read Voicey’s info so I think I know what I’m letting myself in for!
If anyone knows of a suitable car then please PM me. There are a couple on PH I’ll be calling up on tomorrow.
Also thoughts on which dealers to call would be appreciated. I’ve already called KHPC, AV and Rardley - I’m based in Surrey.
Thanks in advance for suggestions and I look forward to sharing pics when I find something.
Cheers
David

Just bought a 360 last week, with the F1 box. I actually really like the box, you really have to think of it as a manual just the change is done by paddle. You cant drive it the way you drive a regular auto or pdk. You do need to find one with the F1 set up properly though, one of the cars I drove just had a new clutch and it was very jerky, the car I bought is pretty smooth. Gear changes at high revs are lightning quick. The bit its not great for is car park manouvering.
Mine came from Simon Furlonger, and I can't fault the service, the car was in their workshop for a 3 weeks whilst they sorted all the little issues did a full cambelt service etc. They have also given me a decent warranty.
I have now had the car for a week and am loving it. Its better than I thought it would be, I was worried that after the Lotus the handling or feel would disappoint, but it is as good most of the time, its only the ride where the Lotus wins.
Overall, I am pretty chuffed

Thanks everyone for the comments so far. Interesting thoughts on the F1 box - it would certainly give me more options. I'm a manual guy at heart, and there is something about the open gate thing that appeals.
If I decided to go with an F1 box, then I assumed I would be better off with an F430 - a bit more money but I could stretch to the extra.

AV can remap the 360 F1 transmission ECU so its as good as if not better than the 430. They use the 360 CS map.
As for 430 being better than 360, thats subjective. I drove both, but feel the 360 has more coherent looks especially the rear which has awkward panel lines on the 430. Obviously the 430 is newer so some bits of tech have moved on

Sensible comments above. I echo the thoughts on the gear change choice. We went out looking for a manual and ended with an F1 (back when manual commanded zero premium btw). It's a personal choice but do try to drive both, neither will disappoint. Good luck with your search, they look uber-sexy in red!

I know it's cheesy, but just feels to me like a mid-engined Ferrari should be red! Plus I like red cars anyway - my Cayman GT4 is red, and the 964 I had before that was also red.

Thanks that's useful to know on the remap. Sounds like I should be keeping an open mind on the box then. Look for the best car I can find and be willing to compromise on box / colour - I guess that makes sense if I want a good / low cost ownership experience rather than a disappointing and expensive one!As for 430 being better than 360, thats subjective. Mods: please don't think I'm trying to drum up business - quite the opposite. I'm booked until January and wish the phone would stop ringing! I just want to clarify a couple of things on what's been said about the mapping.
Firstly, right now I don't map the gearbox ECU (TCU). It is on the development list but is some time away. What we do offer is to install a CS TCU and remap the engine ECUs to CS spec (with a few other enhancements). Although the CS TCU is good in its own right, when paired with the CS engine firmware it performs on a completely different level. The overall package brings the car much closer to 430 levels of performance (both engine and gearbox).

Thanks thats a useful clarification - You are on my list for a call about that service Firstly, right now I don't map the gearbox ECU (TCU). It is on the development list but is some time away. To the O/P,
If you have the budget for an F430, you need to try it before you decide which is for you. There’s no right or wrong answer as many here will attest - there are pluses and minuses for both cars and only you can decide which one works best for you.
And definitely give the F1 box a go. The detractors of the F1 are only people who expect it to drive like a slushbox or DCT. It is neither. Treat it like what it is; a robotised manual and you’ll be rewarded with an involving driving experience (arguably much more of an experience than the DCT gives you).

I can comment on this one as AV did this to my car. The transformation is immense, it simply is not the same car to drive. I’m not talking about a slight increase in power or that ‘it feels’ faster or has a little more torque. It is a complete transformation in all areas. The throttle response is incredible, there is absolutely no hesitation at any rpm or in any gear. Previously the power unit didn’t respond that well under 3000 rpm and it really needed mid to high rpm to get going. That is no longer the case. I cannot stress enough how much of a difference this firmware makes to a 360, preferably with a free flow exhaust. Firstly, right now I don't map the gearbox ECU (TCU). I have my heart set on the Capristo 1/3 system since actually Ferrari race exhausts are hen's teeth these days, but we will see how the actual route to purchase goes over the next few months. I will need to be mindful of the fact that the 360 seems to be in quite high demand at the minute and prices seem to be firming up. So the longer I leave it...
