I took the 458 for a spirited drive today after the car had been left 3/4 weeks on trickle.

After an hour when going into reverse the avh lights came on. This has happened before and has resolved its self so I drove it home. Then the park light message came on and the car wouldn’t hold in 1st gear or reverse and seemed to be in limp mode. The engine control light then came on!!

I managed to get the car in the garage and the only light now remaining is the engine control system failure.

Any ideas folks?

First port of call is to disconnect the battery and do a full system reset. If the problem clears then drive on. If it doesn’t then test your battery to to see if it’s holding charge and putting out a healthy CCA. If it tests fine then it’s time to call you Ferrari mechanic and get it flatbedded to them.

Thanks, I left her for a few hours on charge as the trickle charger was showing amber.

I’ve just started her up and no faults so hopefully she’s ok.

Sounds like your battery is on its last legs. Time to get a new one as a pre-emptive measure. The Varta batteries are well regarded.

Read my current thread on batteries. Yes, I'm told Varta batteries are fine, but told that Odyssey are far better. Better cranking voltage and last longer, The only make of battery allowed in my aeroplane. But they are more expensive than Varta.
