Think I saw a Speciale crash into some trees this afternoon with a recovery truck on the scene to drag it out, looked a bit of a mess.

Anyone know about this? Hope everyone was ok.

Looks like I was mistaken as I drove past the wreckage, it was a 488 Pista. The car is written off but glad the driver was ok though

Story reads like a pile of crap, to be expected I suppose.

“A witness” says the car is a write off, ok might as well report it’s a write off then.

There’s quite a bit of damage but it looks a lot worse than it is, I suspect. With the exception of the front of the car which isn’t clear to see the rest of the structure looks intact. The front is designed to collapse.

A big repair bill for sure but would not be surprised to see it repaired.

Also those pesky two abreast cyclists come out of nowhere don’t they? If you’re not expecting them to do this, and driving accordingly, or them doing it means you have to take extreme corrective action like this, then you were going far too fast / not anticipating enough IMO.

Couldn't agree more. Story comes across as just creating more aggro between cyclists and drivers.

If you're coming down the hill it is a nice bit of road and one can easily pick up a bit of speed if there is no traffic to hinder progress.

Ah you know the road. Indeed we came down there at a sensible speed and there’s a gentle left (he had gone off perpendicular to the right!!) and then the turning into Silent Pool car park. As we come round the corner there’s cars everywhere so we had to stop. We were doing a sensible speed but if you’d come round there at 60 (easy to do) then you’d panic and take avoiding action right at the point he crashed.

So maybe the report is made up, that’s not really the point. I saw the car in the trees and it looked bad, just glad there was no injuries or worse

That may well be true, but at the moment cyclists are everywhere, in far greater numbers than pre-virus. I would not feel remotely confident tearing along a scenic road like this when it's likely to be shared with cyclists and you're going to come upon them at a rate of knots, as this guy obviously did.

Agreed.

And there are footpaths on either side of the road that spill straight onto the road plus the U-turn for people coming from the opposite carriageway. Along with the poor visibility due to trees, crests and bends it is not a road to be taken lightly and probably reflected by the 40 mph limit.

Exactly what I was thinking. In military terms, the 7 Ps

Seems to be a lot of jumping to uncharitable conclusions here for some reason, almost like a bit of envy creeping in biggrin

It was way better when there was a short burst of dual-carriageway in each direction biggrin

Agreed too. Imagining myself as the driver: You're passing at 1.5m, as you're supposed to, with a reasonable (ie not excessive) speed differential. Cyclist moves over a bit. How on earth do you end up with your car in the bushes in a right mess?

Witness does sound made up...there's no story to publish without one of course...
