I need to get the alternator on the 355 changed, question is, would you trust your local garage to change it and also sort a good engine earth out?

I understand it’s a quite straightforward job? Is it about an hour ?

Cheers

Its a simple enough job, however there is a specific rotation and angle needed to get the alternator out past the subframe (ask me how I know). Other than that, its a doddle.

As for local garage doing it, should be fine. Just make sure you tell them the belt tensioner is reverse, so to loosen the belt, you tighten the tensioner nut (if that makes sense).

sounds to me you know from a tricky experience? ;-)

i have also found a few things online that should help? it looks like you need specific tools and a ramp to do it, which is why i am thinking not one for me?

Now if I knew what the fk I was talking about. I would say that once the aux belt has been removed.
Then the top 17 mm nut and bolt on alternator, will be a pig of a job to get to. But not as much as the aux belt tensioner/pulley assembly that needs to be removed to make space to get your hand in to get at the top said bolt and nut.
Then you will have the exiting time getting the auxiliary belt back onto the water pump top pulley.
However, that's what I have heard any way wink
As a bonus, if the alternator has been replaced before while the engine was out and the bottom 17mm bolts has been inserted from the front side ( I have seen this before at an independent), it's going to get exiting getting that baby out with the bulk head in the way.
Again from what I heard biggrin
