Hi,
I'm currently having some problems with my 458 Spider roof when folding down.
The car went in for a service at Ferrari main dealer where they greased the mechanism but this has made no improvement.
On a different Ferrari forum there seems to be people that have had the same issue but no one has ever put the reason why it was happening.

It always closes nice and smooth, never a fail, but lately on almost every opening, although it begins well, when center top reaches 90° it slows down, stops and suddenly, after a loud pop, it completes its way.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks

Is the car under warranty?

Mate had a similar issue and the cause was leaf build up....

No the car is a 2013 with 12000 miles

I took it to main dealer but they didn't really want to know other than grease in the mechanism

Might be worth taking it to a roof specialist?

Obviously not the same league of car, but when I had my Alfa Spider, Cayman Autos (Dorking) were the acknowledged specialists if you had a problem with your roof. I used them and they were excellent - and you see far more than Alfa there - I saw a Porsche, Aston etc. etc.

I'd be surprised if they couldn't figure it out. Your profile says Essex, so they're not exactly local but not the other end of the country either.

Do you park it out doors or does it live in a Garage?

Yes she is a Garage queen.
Its although something is catching or sticking together when closed.
I'm thinking more the latter as after the 1st attempt it seems to free up and not clonk again. But leave it overnight and it starts all over again.

I can't help with the problem without seeing it, but don't use the roof until it is fixed. The mechanisms are incredibly complex and alignment of pretty much every component is critical. Cycling the roof with an issue can lead to many more problems.

Ok ,thanks.
I'll have to get it booked in somewhere.
Someones mentioned elsewhere about an issue they've had before and having to have the tension in the cables adjusted.
I wouldn't want to get involved in that.
I'll report back with the fix when i find it cry

Mine needed the cables (that fold in the leather pads) adjusting, these move at roughly the time you're talking about and i guess have a sensor to confirm the roof can continue so worth a look
