noisy exhausts
Discussion
Been looking for a 360 manual spider and three of the cars I have tested have been spoiled by extremely noisy aftermarket exhausts, from 3 different well known makers. In each case, taking the car any distance would be a complete pain, maybe even literally.
Am I alone in feeling this way? Is it a generation thing with the boy racers wanting the pops and bangs on the over run? I very much doubt that there is any significant gain in performance.
I get the impression from the dealers that there are as many people changing back to standard as there are changing to noisy.

Had a Volvo and whats more a gas powered automatic gearbox one! About as geriatric as you can get.
But sorry - tried a Capristo exhaust, and a larini and Tubi. Of those the Tubi was far the worst with a horrible resonant boom at one rev level. But all of them would have made a 300 mile journey and ordeal unless you had earplugs.
I understand the little boy pops and bangs bit but what is needed is a switch to turn it off it you are doing anything other than trying to annoy the neighbours

I dont think there is anything wrong with having a sports Exhaust on a Ferrari - i think the cars sound much better more aggressive and as intended, i suspect the factory systems whilst muting noise also hold back on some power, like Cats do.
I have a Tubi on mine, and sports Cats - considering whether to decat, but that maybe a step to far, not sure.....
Only thing i noticed was a slight drone around the 50mph mark its fine once you drive past that point so - solution drive faster! :-)
Isn't the noise of these cars not all part of the draw and appeal?
My friend has an F12 and that is pretty loud, and factory system, no complaints from me on the noise of that, but i bet it sounds even better on an aftermarket system.
OP - appreciated these systems are not for everyone, so you could always put the back standard? sell the sports one? would imagine no shortage of buyers online for the used system.

On my 360, I have a Capristo 3/1 which means level 3 (loud) with the valves open and level 1 (near OEM) with them closed. I have a bypass switch wired to make them open all the time (I use it a lot). To have them closed all the time I guess you could live the solenoid out and connect the valves to the vacuum line direct.

Resonance and boom is not cool. I couldn't live with that either. The Capristo system I have on mine is fine for cruising and I can drive around without drawing too much attention, though it is certainly louder than standard. No pops or bangs (I don't like those).

OP, at least it sounds like you're having loads of fun test driving lots of cars
Yes - it is fun. But its also frustrating not finding " the one" and involves a lot of travelling since dealers outside the SE are well spread. SWMBO is quite caustic about the process.bordseye said:

Of all the things to 'spoil' a potential car ... an exhaust which can be changed back to standard for minimal fuss is not one of them. Why are you travelling to see cars that have exhausts you don't like when you could just ask that over the phone?
Sounds like you should be shopping for a new wife too

I have a rebuilt 360 standard system fitted now which comes without the 'white dust all over your engine bay' option. I've another one good to go that you can have for a steal
Problem easily fixed
If I buy one of the possible cars I will definitely be knocking on your door.Problem easily fixed
