I’m about to start my search for a long held dream of mine , my first Ferrari over the next week .
I have tried to do as much homework as possible and have followed these pages and been a long term stalker of these pages , the buying guide thread/ market watch threads over the last year or so .
I have identified four cars that I hope to see over the next two weeks and hope that one of these will be the right car .
However I do have a few outstanding questions that I would welcome any extra tips or advice that anyone may feel would be helpful .
1, manifolds . Yes as expected this would not be a F430 thread without questions about a manifolds . If the original ones have been replaced with Ferrari manifolds will these be any better or do they have to be after market ? I have seen voicey had written that these were a “ticking time bomb “
And also will a main dealer retail a car with aftermarket manifolds on as 3 of the four cars I have identified to view are at a main dealer .
2, warranties . Do I need a power warranty if I purchase from a main dealer .
3 , discount . Is a percentage discount possible on a no px deal from a specialist or a dealer . This is where I would really appreciate some help from anyone who has purchased any Ferrari .
What percentage discount have you been able to negotiate. 5% . 10 percent % more..
As I know two of the four cars have been sat advertised since July last year .
Any comments would be welcome as I go into battle next week !!

I think if you purchase from a main dealer as a Ferrari approved car, then at least one year warranty should be included. I would negotiate a second year as part of the deal (if not already part of it in the Uk as standard)
In terms of discount, I am crap at this - I bought my cars with hardly any discount (basically only got another year warranty thrown in), both had been reduced by c 10k prior to me buying though I believe.
I would buy your first Ferrari from a main dealer with a warranty (I think it makes it more enjoyable as you have less to worry about and usually the dealer then invites you to Ferrari events [some free like test driving a new model, others you pay for like Passione events], which make the ownership experience more special imo)
Good luck - I just got back from a trip to the Red Bull Ring in the 430 and a day on track there, which was great fun - even at 10 years old, the car still performs flawlessly (now on 66k km, only c 16k of those during my ownership though) and can still keep up with most modern Porsches

If you buy from a main dealer they will not sell or provide a warranty on a car with after market manifolds (even though they are far superior fo Ferrari OE ones.)

From memory I managed tto knock them down by about £3k - not a lot, but better than nothing. They knew they were in a strong position with that car. The situation is different now - but it depends on how much tey have in the car and what they have spent on pre sale repairs. I still managed to sell it for more after adding 4 years and 23000 miles.
My advice would be to buy the best car you can find and fit after market manifolds, hill engineering ball joints and track rod ends (OE ones are made of plasticine)
or alternatively, buy a high miler, as cheap as possible knowing that will be selling it cheap in the future - then you wont have to worry about the mileage. Also, find a very reputable specialist for servicing and repairs. That will also save you a few quid.

For the 430s for sale in the main dealer network I looked at a few and all dealers when pushed would discount, £5k off is achievable with a mild push additionally finance can be available for 6.4%apr as that is what Belfast are showing on adverts on autotrader.
Some of the cars for sale are SOR so they are squeezing the seller whilst maintaining their margin.

The later cars- mine was 08 had an upgraded manifold, this can be checked online with the chassis number.
They are very mileage sensitive which for me was the deciding factor to off load it, took the fun out of owning it, having to keep one eye on the mileage.

x 2 and the whole reason I exited Ferrari ownership a few years back. Well on my 355 the speed sensor just disconnected at some point and it therefore stopped counting miles for about 50 at a guess... then it suddenly worked again. On the old cars it was very easy Indeed
always buy on condition and/or with a warranty
The good thing is they don’t fall apart just because of some miles on them, so don’t completely get all the anxiety about it (355 was at 52k miles, current cars are both close to 70k km by now) - if I couldn’t drive them, they would not really give me much enjoyment tbh - what’s the point then

So from what I have learned ,
manifolds after 2007 will have the mk2 fitted by Ferrari .although this is not the perfect solution I guess any issues would be covered by their own warranty.
Main dealer will not retail anything with aftermarket manifolds on .
Power warranty will only be required if I buy from a non franchised dealer .
Standard seats are a no no?
Lots have incorrect mileage.but I would only buy with a comprehensive history anyhow .
I’m encouraged that in the past 5k has been discounted and I’m mindful that we are in a very different market place now . I have noticed that over the period I’ve monitored cars for sale that maindealers rarely seem to reduce cars ,yet independents who reduce prices seem to shift their cars , so possibly they will have more flexibility on their own margins .

I have sadly missed out on an example in the midlands that I was eyeing and have two others in mind that I would like to see . Sadly one is in Edinburgh and another in Hampshire , they really couldn’t be further apart ! I also have a local reputable supercar dealer on the lookout for me too .
It’s my first Ferrari so I’m pretty rigid on spec ,but you can probably guess .
Fingers crossed I’m hoping that a dealer may sniff that there is a deal to be done .

Your right to prioritise on spec simply as these cars are very spec and colour sensitive. What you will find is that those with a strong spec and in a desirable colour typically get snapped up very quickly. This is probably the same across many other premium marques though so not totally unique to Ferrari.
