I was interesting in a real-world perception of the added value of aftermarket exhaust. Having been to many Ferrari meets and hearing owners say, " As soon as I took delivery I had a Capristo fitted" and on early cars it seemed if it didn't have a Tubi exhaust it was as bad as standard seats, I feel it's almost mandatory but fearful it will add little value long-term (other than enjoying the sound and crackles on the downshift)

I have an F430 that I want a little more noise and have priced all types of options including Fabspeed, S-Line from the US and the more locally available options. You can easily spend £5k for sports cats and exhaust.

1) Do you think the F430 needs something other than stock
2) Anyone doing the valve bypass trick - disconnect vacuum hoses etc
3) Are you likely to get any added value if you do upgrade the stock exhaust
4) Anyone thinking of selling separately to their car
5) Recommended specialist for fitment

Feel free to contribute to one or all of the above

3) No added value. In fact, I'd say to some people an aftermarket exhaust may be a negative so store the original in your garage.

This is sound advise. I was thinking that should I do the upgrade I would keep the stock exhaust for this very reason.

On the F430 the best exhaust option in my opinion is the Forza remote valve controller. The noise of the standard exhaust with the valves open is epic. And you always have the option to close the valves and run as stock whenever you want.

This sounds like something I will go for on my newly purchased F430. Any idea on approx cost?

You should spend your money on getting rid of the OEM manifolds. It increases the volume and prevents potential engine damage. Add an exhaust valve controller and you’re good to go.

Approx costs for the above?

I think it costs around £300 IIRC. And then getting someone like voicey on here to fit it for you.

Depends on the manifolds. They start at around £1,500 and go up to £5k. 5 hours to fit plus gaskets. Depending on your year of car you may need to attend to the cat monitoring system.

Controllers - you can build your own for about £50 (instructions are on my blog). We build them up for clients for about £200 or you can buy them from about £400 up to £800.

Certainly wont detract from the sale of the car.
If standard system is offered as well, its win win for the buyer.

These cars sound so crap compared to what can be achieved with the right system fitted.
