430 Scuderia owners views.....good time to buy?
Discussion
Hi all. Recently went to view and possibly purchase a 458 italia last week. Unfortunately it had just sold and was no longer available to view.
However it wasunt a wasted trip as they had a 430 Scuderia in the showroom that just blew me away!!! what an awsome looking car, ive seriously fallen in love with it and the 458 italia just doesunt seem as special after seeing a scud! I must have watched every utube video over the last few days, its just confirmed to me that trading up from my 991 GT3 that a scud is more what i am looking for.
I would love to hear from owners re good and bad ownership experiences ? it would be great to gain some insight into how it will be to own a scud
The difference in ownership experience between the 458 italia and 430 scud would be very interesting
Reliability.. future value? a good car to put your money into? Warranty cost ?
Red to safeguard future value!?
Some guidance and experience before i pull the trigger would be great, thanks in advance
Phil

Ferrari Chat >>>> The Scuderia is miles scarier than a 458 could ever be, and I say that in the most tremendously good, emotional and Ferrari way. It’s an other worldly tingle and boatloads of school girl giggles waiting to happen.
There’s just a larger sense of purpose and occasion in a Scuderia than a 458...you only need open the door and peek at the interior; one screams speed racer and the other gt, yet ironically they both share the same identical race seats simply with different upholstery...I used to get a huge laugh on fchat when I read people making outrageous claims that the 458 race seats are so much more comfortable than the Scud! little do these poor blokes realize they are exactly the same seats! lol
The way the two cars shift is also very different...the scud’s single clutch superfast is just so visceral and invigorating, you get this nice kick every time you tickle that shift paddle. The 458 DCT shifts are also a marvel, smooth and seamless but isn’t really that unique in this sea of new gen Ferraris ie feels the same in almost any other model that can be had today, try em out if you don’t believe me.
The performance topic is also one worth thinking about. The Scud offers competitive modern day performance, not the fastest thing on the road but in my books fast enough...for starters its 0-60 is the same as a 458 at 3.0s (actual road tests not magazine numbers). It does the same laptime of 1:23 at Fiorano on inferior PZero tires; there is no doubt in my mind in equal hands and equal tires it will be faster than a 458 around a track. Also, check out the “Official Scuderia Drag Thread” there are a few head-to-heads against a 458 on an airstrip.
Maintenance will be cheaper on a Scud, the electronics & sensors on a 458 are outrageously expensive! And they do go bad eventually ie require replacement. But like any Ferrari, it’s always wise to put aside money every year just in case
Sound...I think with the proper modifications both sound tremendous, either will be miles better than a 488 or a Pista, anyone that says otherwise is deaf or lying to oneself...it’s not even a debate really.
Looks...I always categorized the Scud as handsome and the 458 pretty, very simply because the Scud has a bigger nod to race trim, with vents, a livery and aggressive scoops while the 458 is more curvaceous, sculpted elegance and daintier/feminine curves.
For the F1 fan in me, I also just geek out and strike a very emotional bond with the Scud because the great Michael Schumacher helped develop the car...every time I get behind the wheel I feel just a bit closer to my hero and get to admire and enjoy a small bit of his genius. The frickin name of the car alone is the F1 team itself, that’s just cool! It’s all there that race pedigree & heritage.

I owned one for a couple of years. Lovely car, great sense of occasion, great engine sound and the gearbox was hilarious. Every time I drove it and popped it into “bumpy road” mode I thought about that Schumacher point made earlier.
I sold it however as I wasn’t using it as much as I wanted to use that type of car, ie I had a particular purpose in mind for that part of my car portfolio. To that end I found it a bit wide for smaller roads and a bit nice/look at me for leaving in regular car parks; it was also increasing in value at that time and was a low mileage one. I replaced it a few months later with a 997.2GT3 CS which fitted my particular brief a bit better.
I tend to try to use my cars alongside my normal life and as such they need to be able to do some A to B driving and be “parkable”. My Scud became restricted to A to A hence the reduced usage. Still a great car though.
Prices seem quite variable. I just went to have a look. It looks like a lot of LHD have come over in the last few years also and I’d be tempted by one of those given the 50% RHD premium. I do wonder how many are selling however so bargain hard and you could do well.

2 different cars. The 458 is definitely more refined but the 430 seems a bit better built. The interior of the 458 is much more delicate/fragile.
I think I would take the 430 Scud if I had lots of opportunity for pleasure drives. Or the 458 if I planed to go distances.
Both will cost the same to run (depreciation and mechanical). So a clutch on a 430 is likely to cost the same as when the electronics eventully pack up on the 458.
Have to say the Scud is looking a bit dated

have owned my scuderia for three years, (LHD) its presently for sale on pistonheads as new car GT3RS coming, have enjoyed the car, its much more raw feeling than driving a 458, running costs will be similar, depreciation on both will be similar and the market is fairly flat at the moment, both very quick but different experience, Scuderia is a track car for the road (and the soft button is brilliant to soften the ride on normal roads) the 458 is more road car,
suggest driving both and picking which one you prefer,
I would buy another scuderia but probably not a 458
regards
Scott.

Got to second that. The 458 system is just too sanitised as is the equivalent in a Porker. The 430 one lets you know that you have changed gear - the engine / gearbox speed matching isnt anything like as good. Sure it eats clutces and is less reliable than the DCT but its more "sports car". It helps that it has a sensible number of gearsEdited by bordseye on Monday 29th April 11:09
