Calling all California owners - help & advice needed!
Discussion
So finally I’m venturing into the Ferrari world and buying a 2010 California and part exchange my 911 but I need some advice on the following:
1. What are people’s thought on using as a daily drive? I only do 4K miles per annum as have a family car for the weekend?
2. The car I’ve seen and test drove I love but it’s got this plastic ‘cover’ stuck on the back. You can only see it when the roofs down but it’s discoloured and looks, a bit crap. They’ve said they will replace it but they said it will only happen again because it prevents water etc.
3. Any issues I should keep an eye out for? Any obvious things to avoid.
Thanks guys, so excited but really nervous too!

I am thinking about the same. (2010 California). I currently have a Bentley Continental GT Speed remapped to 706BHP and sounds awesome through the new Larini Sports exhaust. My previous car was a manual AM DB9 coupe so i am used to higher than normal running costs.
One thing that is putting me off is the Ferrari service schedule. I have been told that it is every 6 months at a few thousand each time where as the Bentley is annual with the last big service costing me £1,600.
Anyone else change from a Bentley to a Ferrari?

The trick, servicing wise is to buy a late car with the 7 year service pack I would have thought. I had one for a year and used it a lot, I drove to Italy in it. Great car and very usable. I would buy another in a heartbeat. I have not tried the T, but if I was buying again, I would buy the 30 edition and aim for a 2014.

That’s another worry for me. The warranty has a total maximum payment of £10k for the first 12 months. That might not last long!

For a long time now Ferraris have been on an annual schedule except for ludicrous mileages and I don't think the California is any different - my guess for an older car is under a grand for a minor and under two for a major I've got a 2009 California and have been running it for the last 3 years with no major issues.
Annual servicing at main dealers and covering around 6000 miles per annum, so it's no garage queen having coveread about 45000 miles to date.
Only niggles in that time have been a fault on the roof hyraulics (which I gather is a fairly common issue due to routing of one of the hyraulic pipes) and a couple of parking sensors failing.
Lovely car to drive...whatever the occasion and in no rush to part with mine despite having tried Cali T Handling Speciale and Portofino...yes, they have much more performance and power, yes the handling is much improved but they lack the soundtrack that you get from a proper Ferrari V8 and I'm not totally struck myself with the styling on the Cali T...or the rear of the Portofino.
Horses for courses though and I know the California is a car that some love and some really hate (even saying it's not a proper Ferrari).
If you can find a late one with the service plan included thats always a bonus...and buying through a main dealer on the Ferrari Approved you should get a 2 year warranty with it....which whilst limited is better than nothing at all.

Definitely annual service unless you're doing 15k plus miles and average cost of around £600 for a main dealerOne thing that is putting me off is the Ferrari service schedule. Cheers Jon. Brilliant feedback. Lots to think about.
I’m buying it privately and saving £6-£8k.
Obviously I’d be saving nothing if the engine blows 2 weeks after purchase!
Not to scare you but that happened to me, I bought a 2014 Cali and after 50 miles the engine blew up. And because Ferrari don’t make that engine anymore they were looking at a 3 month wait for the replacement. Fortunately I bought it through Ferrari and they gave me my money back and I bought a California T instead. The 2 year Ferrari warranty is easily worth the 6-8k saving you are on about.I’m buying it privately and saving £6-£8k.

I'd also be wary about buying privately as, although its limited, the Ferrari warranty is worth the extra few ££. If nothing else, it's also advantageous to get a bit of a rapport with the main dealers as there are often deals that can be done on labour rates for servicing etc as they want to keep you in the dealer network if they can. Always looks better with the right stamps in the service book. Even at 10 years old my California has a full Ferrari dealer history and is currently in for a warranty renewal inspection as they were offering a 50% discount at the end of last year.I’m buying it privately and saving £6-£8k.

I also suspect that there are deals to be had on the older Californias even from a main dealer if you ask.
When I last had a Maserati the garage I took it to had a California in for a rebuild, the engine was rattling and Ferarri wanted £50k for a new engine.
My guy rebuilt it for £13k and the owner was very pleased with that. It was a 6 year old car with about 5000 miles on. Apparently there is a batch of bad engines out there and some issues were addressed with a recall on some. Worth looking into.

just my two pence worth I own both cali and cali
the cali is great and ours had the mark you mention on the rear deck, easy fix!!
the cali t is a different league, a lot smoother and more refinded but doesn't have the same noise but imo looks a lot better.
my only fault with the cali t is the steering is incredible fast imo
