New F430 Owner Exhaust Manifold
Discussion
I have just put a deposit on a F430 and I’m super excited to collect it. It’ll be my first Ferrari so really looking forward to enjoying it. There’s a few things need doing to make it’s perfect but im hoping to improve it with time. I’ve been trying to do some research on the car prior to collecting it. One of the things I’ve read is about the exhaust manifolds cracking and causing damage to the engine, when viewing I noticed the car is still running the cast iron manifolds so I’d definitely like to upgrade to some stainless tubular units. I’ve seen a few reasonably priced units but I do have some concerns. First of all the car has a 430 GTC exhaust I think it’s a Tubi and I worry that adding the manifold to this system will make it too loud, has anybody found this or is the noise issue not too bad? If it’s too loud I may have to change to the original OEM exhaust silencer to help reduce noise. Also when fitting the tubular manifolds I believe it removes the pre cats, does this have any issues with emissions test for the MOT and does it bring on warning lights like EML or warning notices on the dash? I really want to avoid this as I’ve owned cars that have had lambda sensor issues due to removing cats etc and it drove me mad trying to sort these issues out. Just after some first hand advice really just to give me some feedback! Thanks in advance!
I owned a 430 Spider for four years and had standard manifolds changed twice I but that was all under warranty (this was a few years ago)
I had a Tubi put on and it was a solid loud boom. Some would say it was too loud. Didn’t bring on any dash errors though.
430 is a brilliant car. I never had any ball joint issues which I heard about all the time from other owners but my exhaust brackets would crack each time I did a charity track day once per year.

Thanks for that advice! That’s good to hear. What your saying is similar advice to what I’ve been reading to it backs up my thourghts to change the manifolds and it’s good to hear that your exhaust didn’t bring up any dash lights. I’ve got to do a 5 hour drive home so that’ll give me a good indication of whether I reckon it’s too loud or not and that’ll probably make my mind up as to whether I need to buy a standard back box for the car if I were to change to the tubular manifold system. Thanks again

Some good advice on 430 manifolds on this thread on another forum including the last post from Voicey around model year updates and the effect they may have on engine lights. Early cars seem to be less of an issue.

I don't have a 430 but the messages are consistent. Replace the manifolds with a non-Ferrari, replace the silencer brackets with a version that allows the system to expand and potentially had coating or heat blankets to reduce the heat soak.

Any tubular manifolds will be very loud. I was very surprised when I put them on mine. I have a standard f430 exhaust system with aftermarket manifolds and it is a lot louder. on the standard system when the valves open its basically a CAT'd straight-through system as it bypasses the muffler box. the standard manifolds had CATs which made it a little quieter. With the aftermarket manifolds, I'd suggest you really want a valved backbox (I believe most tubi and capristo exhausts are 'set' so they do not use a valve system) I'd find the noise quite anti-social if I didn't have the option for closed valves into a backbox.
You will get dash lights as the down-stream O2 sensors read differently. I used to get them every now and again (use a code reader to confirm and reset them). The internet suggests 'mini-cat' extensions to the senors, I've added them and no longer get the MIL, but it is possible you might get an occasional one).
I also installed the capristo sliding brackets.
Aldous (weblink above) at AV engineering did the install - highly recommended.
Not had any issues with MOTs - the engine is actually very 'clean' on emissions

Thanks for the advice people it’s much appreciated. The car is relatively high mileage for a 430 at 50,000 miles so I’m wanting to replace them as soon as really especially if it could do potential damaged to the engine as I’m not sure they’ve been replaced before due to no receipts for it in the service history. As for noise it sounds like they are going to make it noiser but I’ll have to see if it’s too noisy with the Tubi exhaust.. failing that I’ll have to try find a original silencer. I’m used to having reasonably loud cars, coming from a V8 Vantage and TVR I just don’t want it to be too loud and attract too much attention over the standard system. Thanks for all the updates and links they’ve been really useful!

i've been through the tvr mill and had a db7 and v8v too pal...the 430 (once the valves open) is probably on a par with a v8v (with fuse 22 removed ) in terms of volume, but once it starts screaming it's pretty much full on hysterical wife ....and that's with standard exhaust...what i can add is that after aston i went 430 and liked it so much that after i regrettably sold it i was back in the saddle within a few months... i'm 9 years into 430 ownership now across 2 cars and wouldn't have it any other way...enjoy!!
