Has anybody any experience of the factory fitted protection film?
The reason I ask is that the dealer who is supplying my Pista is offering to have it fitted FOC. Before anyone asks an aftermarket film is not an alternative being offered by the dealer it has to be the factory fitted item so it comes up on the option list.
As I understand the factory film is not as sophisticated as some of the aftermarket offerings but is it any good?
The one positive is being factory fitted that it counts as an original option as opposed to aftermarket I guess that means a bit to people who want no aftermarket parts on a car come resale time.
To be honest I have never been a fan of protection film and have never had it fitted to a car in the past. I prefer the natural paint finish and using a chip touch up kit (the Chipex one in the UK gives brilliant results) for the odd stone chip that I pick up.
However not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth I would be interested in views from from owners who have had the factory film before making a decision.

I have the factory stuff on my 458 (just going by MyFerrari), its a very minimal kit that covers lips and edges.

I'd describe it as a poor equivalent, if you're going to go with PPF then go aftermarket

From my experience of dreadful Ferrari factory surface paint finish, the last thing I want would be for it be covered by ppf. i.e. lock in factory marring and swirl marks. If solid colour you’ll be much better getting a quality detail after delivery. I’ve been staggered at how much better my Rosso Corsa cars look after a full paint correction and a gteqnic coating.
(Yes I know paint correction on new cars sounds ridiculous, but from my experience this is the same across all brands, particularly on solid red paint)
Edited to add I had the factory front end ppf removed from my 488 for this reason and also that it was the ‘self healing’ type and you could see the stone chip in the ppf but couldn’t touch it in, although the paint work underneath was fine on removal. I also prefer the chip-ex touch-up option.

Get a proper PPF from a detailer if you want to go down that route. Anyone who looks to buy the car in the future will see the value in that and won't be put off by it. There will be negligible value in PPF as an option, people will buy on condition.

A proper PPF will be leagues ahead in terms of quality and coverage compared to the stuff from the factory, and as said it will lock in paint defects.

Having seen the results of detailing on a few cars I've owned I would get it done on a brand new car, and then decide if I wanted PPF on top of that flawless finish. The difference would be night and day.

I've seen a number factory fitted kits over the years. Including one on Laf, they're very poor tbh. I've probably got some pics of how bad if your unsure ping me a dm and try and find some pics.
